Triviabits for Monday, September 7

Labor Day: Most of the world celebrates the labor movement on May 1, but that date is a little bit too steeped in radical iconography for North Americans, so it was moved to September. Today, Labor Day represents a symbolic end to summer and the start of the football season. As the old joke runs, today we celebrate the contributions of labor by not laboring at all.

Errata Time: Recently, we had confused Oscar Romero, the murdered Central American cleric, with Cesar Romero, who played the Joker. Very different people. A number of people wrote in that the acronym MAD stands for Mutually Assured Destruction, not Mutually Assured Distraction and that we should have spelled the South American country "Colombia," not "Columbia." Finally, we had the word order wrong for the TARDIS: it's Time And Relative Dimension(s) In Space.
