Montreal Hockey: The Montreal Canadiens are the only current team to win a Stanley Cup before joining the NHL. They are heroes for the cities French-speaking population. There used to be a team for the city's Anglophones. They were called the Montreal Wanderers. They folded after their arena burned down and were replaced by the Montreal Maroons, the last Stanley Cup winning team to fold, doing so when a plan to move them to Philadelphia came to naught in 1947.

Hooray for Fort Lee, N.J.: When Hollywood was just a citrus grove, the movie industry was being born in New Jersey, where people flocked to use Thomas Edison's new invention.

Mary Pickford, Pearl White and Theda Bara were among the stars of the Jersey movie industry. But then the industry moved west to avoid Thomas Edison's technological stranglehold. In other words, Hollywood was built on cheating Edison of his intellectual property rights. Hmmm.
