Junk on eBay: The first item ever sold on eBay was a broken laser pointer, which sold for $14.83. Astonished, Pierre Omidyar wanted to make sure the winning bidder knew the pointer was broken, and was in turn told, "I'm a collector of broken laser pointers." It is not true, though, that the site was founded to sell the Pez collection of Omidyar's fiancee. That's just PR fluff.

Alike in Their Happy Endings: In 1927, MGM filmed a version of Tolstoy's "Anna Karenina." But what's with that title? Instead, they called it "Love" and billed it as "Greta Garbo and John Gilbert are in Love." Oh, and Tolstoy's ending? What a downer.

Instead, they filmed two endings: a happy version for American audiences, and the real one for international audiences. The movie flopped anyway.

Which of these is not a brownie?

A) A box camera introduced by Kodak in 1900

B) A chocolate treat

C) A hockey term for a 5-minute penalty

D) A Scottish elf who does your chores

Previous answer: Although there were bands called America and Europe, the supergroup featuring Howe and Palmer was Asia.
