Greenland Is Finally Free: Greenland finally emerges today from the firm hand of Danish oppression (such as it is) to become a separate country within the Kingdom of Denmark. So, Denmark is now two countries ... or something. On June 7, the kingdom will have a referendum that may end primogeniture, the idea that boys should get the throne ahead of their sisters. The current Danish crown prince, by the way, is married to a Tasmanian ad exec.

 

Mount John McCain: As you may know, North America's tallest mountain was called Denali by the Indians, but was named Mount McKinley by the Americans. Here's the strange part: William McKinley was not yet president at the time.

He was, in fact, still a candidate. Previously, it had been called Densmore's Mountain, after a gold prospector, and renaming the mountain was a dig at his rival's support for silver currency.
