Dixie Rises: A popular theme in alternative history writing imagines a world in which the South won the Civil War ... and in which somehow extending slavery another few years or so wouldn't have been such a bad thing. Winston Churchill even wrote an alternative history of an alternative history, in an essay called "If Lee Had Not Won the Battle of Gettysburg." But perhaps the best-known speculation on Confederate victory is "The Guns of the South" by Harry Turtledove.

Joking Joker: When Oscar Romero played the Joker on the old "Batman" TV series starring Adam West, he refused to shave his trademark moustache.

The role was redefined by Jack Nicholson, so much so that some thought he might nab an Oscar nomination. He didn't, but Heath Ledger did, when he redefined the role again in "The Dark Knight." The role earned Oscar buzz right out of the gate and became a rare posthumous win.
