The Panamanian golden frog doesn't have ears. Instead, its lungs pick up sound waves and send them on to the eardrums. A lot of fish hear this way. But they still can't hear each other over the rushing waters in which they breed, so they've learned to communicate by semaphore. They literally wave at each other. Rarely seen and endangered, the frogs are a national symbol in Panama, which celebrates August 14 as National Golden Frog Day.
