Although the recent Green Lantern movie kind of flopped, the character himself is actually one of DC Comics’ flagship superheroes. The original version appeared in 1940's All-American Comics No. 16. He was Alan Scott and wore an awful red and green uniform. A new version, with a nicer all-green costume, debuted in 1959's Showcase No. 22. This time he was test pilot Hal Jordan. Sadly, Hal tried to destroy the universe, so now Green Lantern is a freelance artist named Kyle Rayner.
