The name "Peer Gynt" is best known by trivia fans as either of two suites of orchestral music by Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. The two Peer Gynt Suites were extracted by Grieg from the 90 minutes of original music he wrote in 1885 for the five-act Henrik Ibsen play of the same name. Because the play is so long and requires frequent scene changes, it is rarely performed these days.
