WEEK OF JANUARY 18Monday, January 18 Prince Charles was apparently worshipped as a divine figure by the Iounhanan tribe on Tanna, which is one of the islands in Vanuatu, a nation in the South Pacific once known as the New Hebrides. As the story goes, when he heard about his godhood, he sent the islanders a signed picture, which is now treated as a relic and protected by an official guardian. Pat Boone made a career doing bland covers of 1950s R&B classics. One of these was Little Richard's "Tutti-Frutti," even though the song's original lyrics were fairly explicitly an ode to gay anal sex. Boone's version charted higher than Little Richard's, so he decided to write a song so fast that it was be Boone-proof. That song was "Long Tall Sally." And, of course, Boone covered it.
