Wednesday, January 13Having worked on Sid Caesar's legendary sketch comedy "Your Show of Shows," Carl Reiner thought it would be a great idea to set a sitcom backstage at a similar show. He originally wanted to star in it himself, but the network found him a bit too ... well ... Jewish. Two other choices emerged. One was Johnny Carson. But eventually it became "The Dick Van Dyke Show." You can still see echoes of it in shows like "30 Rock." In that Civil War marching song, we learn that John Brown's body lies a-moulderin' in the grave. But where is this grave where that moulderin' is happening? Well, that would be North Elba, N.Y. That being said, the John Brown of the song may not be the same as the nutty abolitionist. A more likely candidate is Sgt.
