Ikea is actually run by a Dutch charity that "supports innovation in ... architectural and interior design." Sounds nice, right? Actually, the whole thing is part of an elaborate tax dodge. Company founder Ingvar Kamprad set up the Stichting Anka Foundation, as well as a string of shell corporations, which basically own Ikea. It also turned out that Kamprad was active in a pro-Nazi group in Sweden during World War II.

Fencers Vladimir Smirnov and Matthias Behr were competing for the 1982 championship in Rome when Smirnov incurred the injuries that killed him. Behr, a West German, broke his blade, which went through Smirnov's mask and into his brain. The Soviet Olympic gold medalist died nine days later, having been kept on life support so that he didn't die during the World Championships.
