Eden Riegel ("All My Children"), Kassie DePaiva ("One life to Live") and Bradford Anderson ("General Hospital") join the list of 31 stars from ABC Daytime to appear at the ABC SOAPnet Super Soap Weekend Nov. 15-16. "All My Children's" Cameron Mathison headlines the event at Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Also from "All My Children" are Rebecca Budig, Bobbie Eakes, Melissa Claire Egan, Ricky Paull Goldin, Thorsten Kaye, Alicia Minshew, Aiden Turner and Darnell Williams. The talent from "One Life to Live" includes Kristen Alderson, Brandon Buddy, Michael Easton, Farah Fath, Susan Haskell, John-Paul Lavoisier, Erika Slezak, Jason Tam, Brittany Underwood and Bree Williamson. "General Hospital," stars include Brandon Barash, Julie Berman, Tyler Christopher, Jason Cook, Rebecca Herbst, Kelly Monaco, Kirsten Storms, Jason Thompson and Laura Wright. "All My Children's" Susan Lucci is currently competing on ABC's hit show "Dancing with the Stars." Will she be at the event? Only if she is cut.
According to a press release, this year's Super Soap Weekend marks the last. The ABC's Daytime 2009 Soap Nation Tour, a collection of nationwide events designed for interaction with fans on a year-round basis, will offer greater access to stars in more cities, more often. That's the official reason. There is always the reason behind the reason. In this case it is two reasons: Fans love the event, but numbers were dwindling. Melissa Noramski has attended each year.
Reason number two: If there is nothing like a diva, then there is nothing like two dozens divas. In truth, most years there are only three or four stars that make publicists say "I would rather work with Charles Manson," but they exist. They are the stars that get upset when one actress has a red chair and they have a blue chair. The biggest diva ever to attend a Super Soap weekend was a real star. Star Jones came to promote the then-brand new "View." She kept asking everybody, "Don't you know who I am?" when she wanted something. If you have to ask the question, they don't, or they don't care. Her demands were outrageous even for a "Star." The press didn't help either: "How come the editor from (blank) gets to stay at the lavish hotel with the stars and I am at the semi-fabulous resort next door?" "What do you mean I only have 10 food vouchers for two days? I need a hundred." "I hate the food in the press room!"
The final Walt Disney World weekend will feature retrospectives and exclusive productions, including commemorative clip packages honoring the 45th anniversary of "General Hospital," the 40th anniversary of "One Life to Live," "All My Children's" 10,000th episode and past Super Soap Weekends. ABC SOAPnet Super Soap Weekend is included with theme park admission to Disney's Hollywood Studios.
