This is Double Ten Day in China. No, not that China. The other, smaller China. The one you call Taiwan. It is the successor state of the regime that knocked down the Chinese emperor and declared a republic. This process started with the Wuchang Uprising, which began on Oct. 10. Hence, Double Ten. It is also known as National Celebration Day.

Tomorrow you may be in for a surprise. It is National Coming Out Day, when gay men, lesbians and bisexuals are encouraged to share their status with friends and family. The idea came up after the Second National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights in 1987. Candace Gingrich became the spokesperson for the day in April 1995. Coming out is especially important for what is called the "gay agenda," since people who have gay friends or relatives are more supportive of gay-friendly policies.
