Plus, he named his daughter Shanda ... as in Chanda Lear. Get it? A Philippine one-peso coin from 1947 depicted Douglas MacArthur, calling him "Defender and Liberator." When FDR ordered MacArthur to vacate his Filipino HQ, the island fortress of Corregidor, MacArthur considered defying the order and becoming a private soldier in the Philippine resistance. In the end, he went to Melbourne but promised, "I shall return." The Australians put him in charge of their military, as well, since Japan was getting quite close to the continent.
