Wednesday, March 27On June 4, 1944, British agents had a serious conversation with Leonard Dawe in Surrey. Utah, Omaha, Overlord and Neptune had been answers in the Guardian's crossword puzzle in the previous month. And all of them were codewords for the D-Day invasion, just days away. Two years earlier, Dawe had also been under suspicion, because he'd used the clue "French port (6)" just before the Dieppe debacle. But it was all a coincidence.
