Horoscopes by Holiday for April 13

Today's astrology is twofold. First, Neptune waves a fairy wand over the sun, transporting those looking to their own version of "haven." Whether a refuge or vision of nirvana, haven is closer for the reaching. A second influence, Jupiter, trifles Mercury — but in a good way. Opportunities may simply take more time, and finagling, to figure out.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You're getting wise to needs you didn't know you had — like the need to be listened to with uninterrupted attention. Knowing this is one of your needs, you'll attract a wonderfully attentive counterpart.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). You're bumped up to a position of power, and loving it! Of course your responsibilities are increased, too, but you're willing to accept all that comes with this new role. Pisces and Scorpio show you respect.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You're juggling, dealing, running around — and this is supposed to be a day of rest! Doing one thing at a time gets it done. On a financial note, keep believing that you were meant to thrive, not merely survive.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Feelings are real, but fleeting. For instance, the flirtatious connection you make with an interesting someone this afternoon means something in the moment, but once the moment is gone, so is the meaning.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You're doing a fine job of finding something to admire about the people you're around. But be careful not to place anyone above you, or below you. Everyone is equally worthy of respect.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (APRIL 13). This year shows you doing your dynamic best in the roles you've chosen. New influences at home increase your comfort level in May. In June, you set lofty goals and may find it difficult to follow through. Push through your own resistance and claim the success you were always meant to have. July is highly social. Entertain, explore, fall in love again. Aries and Pisces admire you. Your lucky numbers are: 7, 18, 33, 29 and 19.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). The Chinese call the life force of the universe "chi." When you use your imagination to solve problems, this force flows through you to a greater degree, allowing you to feel increasingly joyful.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Appearances lie. Assumptions are wrong. Whatever quality you observe in things, also look for the opposite quality. There's wisdom in silliness, and folly in seriousness.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). You're working on honing your talent. This requires you to say "no" to other things you might have liked to do.
You're committed to improving, so this is not so difficult. Cancer is your teacher.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). You're letting the past color your thinking — which is smart. But stay on the bright side. Knowing better will keep you safe. Let your knowledge expand your options, not limit them.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). If you follow your inklings, you'll end up somewhere you've never been before. It won't make sense in the short term, but in the long term you'll see that this is perfect place for you at this time.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Getting your energy up doesn't have to be a long spiritual process involving the lotus position and the word "ohm." Hold your own personal dance party in the living room. That should do the trick.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). You used to think that all you needed to get your dream off the ground were the right connections. Now you're seeing that it's essential to build your dream first. When you build it, the connections come to you.

FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: This week welcomes the sun's entry into Taurus. If we could turn back the clocks to about 4,000 B.C., the sun's position on the vernal equinox — the date when day and night are the exact same length, also the first day of spring — would actually be in Taurus, not Aries, as it is now. Early civilizations actually considered Taurus the first constellation of the zodiac, which explains why there are cultures that worship, or at least admire, animals that say "moo." There's much to admire about the bull. To the ancient people, the bull represented abundance, strength and fertility. When they invoked bull energy, they pulled on the prospering power of an animal that gave its life for human consumption, brute strength to plow fields (ox and yoke) and the annual de-flowering of the birds and bees (fertility). During the sun's procession through Taurus, Ma Nature works hard, but I suspect she plays a little harder. What's the point in amassing bounty if not to celebrate it? So on behalf of bulls everywhere, don't put off for tomorrow what you can enjoy today — 'cause during Taurus times, the fruits of our labors do taste a little sweeter.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Aries Abigail Breslin has been called a pint-sized powerhouse. A quick glance at her natal chart reveals Abigail's larger-than-life-force as an unlikely disguise for a 12-year-old sage. With the sun and Mars in Aries, she's a natural leader. But her moon occupies the last sign of the zodiac, Pisces. She's been here before. And as surely as Abby keeps her own counsel, she inspires others, too.
