Horoscopes by Holiday for April 9

Think, and then think again. Today's Gemini moon promotes cross-pollination of fresh ideas from flower to flower, thinker to thinker, along with our tendency to unthinkingly jump from thought to speech, brain to mouth. Oops! Yet, somewhere in the data exchange, we learn more about what we think — and why we think the way we do.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). You see so much to like in people that you feel like giving a bonanza of compliments. However, if you lay a big one on your sweetie or your boss, you'll be suspected of having ulterior motives.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Revisit and revive projects. You are more experienced than you were when you first thought, "I can do that!" and now you have the skills and judgment that were missing before. You actually CAN do that.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You're currently giving more than you can afford, perhaps in an attempt to impress someone or be very well liked. You'll make more money soon enough, and your efforts are effective to boot.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). When you get stuck, don't give in. Being stuck is a signal to look around and find a new way. Fast. Be like the martial artist in movies, using the resources around you to escape from, surprise or conquer the opponent.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You're in new territory. There is no precedent for what you are doing. You can ask friends and teachers for advice, and they won't have any that applies. Let your own instincts about right and wrong to guide you.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (April 9). You're clear about what you have to offer the world. You figure out your strengths and work them. Your love life gets more and more interesting now through June. Then you settle into a relaxing groove, feeling fine about the way everything is turning out. There are new family additions in July. Gemini and Capricorn are motivational forces. Your lucky numbers are: 30, 11, 54, 39 and 1.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). To know when to stop and when to persist is a talent in and of itself. You possess this gift. You won't stop short of a victory, nor will you continue down paths that lead nowhere.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Learning requires that you drop your defenses. What you do as a reaction to protect your sense of self will only keep you the same. Once you give up the old you, the new you will emerge.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). You're passionate about the people, places and activities you spend your time and energy on.
It's this passion that moves a minor mountain in your world. Capricorn, in particular, is touched by the emotion you show.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). You'll hear through the grapevine how much you are appreciated. It feels good, but you're not sure if you should believe it. The person who speaks well of you behind your back is truly your friend.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). Say what's on your mind, even if it's an idea that's still half-baked. Don't be shy. Tonight, if you happen to be getting too much attention from /someone who's usually not so interested, it's time to ask, "What do you want?"

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). For every opinion you share with loved ones, there seems to be an equal and opposite opinion to keep you arguing into the night. That's fine with you. Loved ones who are in a contrary mood help you hone your ideas.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). It's not official, but if you were to take a poll, you would see that your approval rating is up, way up! There's no stopping your popularity as you laugh and share your mojo with everyone you meet now.

ASTROLOGICAL QUESTIONS: "I'm madly in love with a Capricorn girl born on Christmas. Her ex left her, and she is having a hard time getting over him. We dated for six months, and she now wants time off to get over her feelings for the other man. I'm a Gemini. Do you see us getting back together?"

Sorry, Gemini. She's a Capricorn woman, and she has already made up her mind. Lyle Lovett even wrote a song called "She's Already Made Up Her Mind" that explains it all: "There is nothing so unwavering as a Capricorn woman/When she's already made up her mind." OK, I may have added the Capricorn part. But don't give up just yet. There is hope. Use your Gemini charm — on another woman. Yes! Capricorn gals are fiercely competitive, and she'll probably fight to get you back. Don't lead this other woman on, though. That's not only bad karma — it's just plain bad manners. CELEBRITY PROFILES: Mandy Moore has described herself as a "glass-half-full kind of person." I'm sure she has her days. Aries people possess the cheerfulness and optimism of the first sign of the zodiac, but in truth, resiliency is an earned process of being half empty, too. Certainly, Mandy bumps up against walls and uses emptiness as a motivating force to find new strategies and life solutions — filling that glass right up again.
