Paulina Porizkova, who became just as famous for her disparaging comments about the fashion industry as she did for her supermodel success, says she's the first one to admit how hypocritical it is that she is now a judge on cycle 10 of "America's Next Top Model."
"For somebody who's been as dismissive of modeling as I have been, it is complete insanity. Talk about contradicting myself. I'm perfectly aware of it," she notes. But, she adds, "I was like, hey, that's life!"
In fact, Porizkova says she questioned Tyra Banks' decision to ask her to be on the show in the first place. "They called me before to do it, but they were shooting in L.A. so it was not an option because I would not leave New York. Tyra called again and said, 'We're moving the show to New York. Would you be interested now?' I said, 'Tyra, you do know who you're talking to? You remember that I'm the girl who officially hates modeling?' She was laughing and said, 'Yes, I know exactly who I'm calling. That's why I want you — because you bring something different.'"
However, just because Porizkova is a judge on the show, don't think her opinions of the business have changed. "I feel exactly the same way about modeling. I even asked the girls, which you won't see on the show, 'Why do you want to be models? How many are here because you love fashion?' There wasn't one that raised her hand," she recalls. "They want to be famous. They want to be loved. If you're a model, then everyone has to sort of admit that you're beautiful. I think it's just something young girls want as a seal of approval."
ALL GREEK TO HER: "Greek" series actress Spencer Grammer reports her character will no longer be in a love triangle when the ABC Family network show returns for its second season tonight (March 24). "She's being single and having a good time," says Grammer, who plays sorority sister Casey on the series. At the end of the first season of "Greek," a school paper expose revealed students cheating on tests, sexual peccadilloes and rampant alcohol abuse in the sororities and fraternities on campus. Grammer says her character is now "interim president and is trying to get the sorority back on track."
Viewers will also get to see a little bit more of Casey's and her younger brother Rusty's (Jacob Zachar) background. "We have a tennis-weekend episode where we get to meet our parents," she says.
FOR LAUGHS: "Human Giant" star Rob Huebel reports the MTV show has a lineup of guest stars set to appear in the show's second season that's like a who's who of today's comedy.
"We're kind of lucky in that there's a good vibe in the comedy world right now," says Huebel. "There are a lot of people on cool shows that we like, and they're just really great about doing other projects. We've got some friends from 'Saturday Night Live,' like Andy Samberg, Fred Armisen and Bill Hader. We also have Tracy Morgan and Will Arnett, who is just hilarious."
Huebel, who does the show with friends Paul Scheer and Aziz Ansari, says having these types of comedians on set only makes them better. "The cool thing for us is when you can work with your friends, it just makes it so much easier because you don't have to worry if things are going to be funny. We let them improvise and do whatever they want."
As for the rest of the season, Huebel says fans can expect a lot more than what they bargained for. "The last thing you want when you're writing comedy is to have to worry about any kind of limitations," he notes. "Since this is our second season, MTV really took the leash off of us. I can't believe the stuff that they've let us get away with. I mean, we don't intentionally try to make the show raunchy or edgy, but it's really cool to have that freedom."
THE INDUSTRY EYE: Here's a power elite challenge. Looking at an April production start for his George W. Bush biopic, "W," Oliver Stone has his casting forces looking for candidates to play such familiar roles in the Bush universe as Ari Fleischer, George Tenet, Paul Wolfowitz, Tommy Franks and brother Jeb Bush. Josh Brolin's already signed on to play the current president, adding a father-son presidential dimension since, you'll recall, papa James Brolin portrayed the late Ronald Reagan in the controversial "The Reagans" telefilm.
AND: Yecch. Casting is underway for the already highly hyped "Friday the 13th" prequel, starting with the need to find a new Jason and young Jason.
