Tuesday, November 24It was 150 years ago today that Charles Darwin saw the publication of "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection," which explained evolution and made possible another century of scientific advances. Darwin dawdled considerably before publishing his ideas, though, and was nearly scooped by Alfred Russel Wallace, who was developing the same insights. The term "survival of the fittest" only appeared in the fifth edition, the term having originated with Herbert Spencer. Richard Knerr and Spud Melin founded Wham-O, which was named for its first product, a kind of slingshot inspired by a device falconers used to fire meat at falcons in training. In the 1950s, the company mastered the art of turning unusual playthings into national fads, starting with the hula hoop, the marketing of which inspired the movie "The Hudsucker Proxy." Popularized by JFK's national security advisor, McGeorge Bundy, what Wham-O product was made with Zectron? A) Frisbee B) Hula Hoop C) Silly String D) Super Ball Previous answer: Somebody with alektorophobia fears chickens.
