LYNDA HIRSCH ON TELEVISION -- SUMMARY

Another ABC scripted show bites the dust. "Zero Hour" did not even get to count to 10.

The show was pulled after three airings. The conspiracy theory show stared Anthony Edwards OF "ER" fame. There are still several shows in the can.

Here is a great idea: Why doesn't ABC have a night where they offer the remaining unseen episodes of canceled shows like "666 Park Avenue"? Instead, they are treating us to new shows like "Splash," starting March 19.

Stars include Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Louie Anderson, Drake Bell, Chuy Bravo, Rory Bushfield, Nicole Egger, Kashia Knight Pulliam, Ndamukong Suh, Katherine Webb and Kendra Wilkinson. When a show says stars, I want stars. In this list, I recognize four names. Sort of like when I watch the Grammys. Who are these people and their songs?

NBC can't get any respect, even from the stations that carry its shows. Cleveland, one of the top television markets, substituted "The Office," "1600 Penn" and "Law and Order SVU" with a two-decade-old Matlock move. My grandmother would have been thrilled.

Yes, Cleveland CBS has made hits out of crime shows such as "NCIS," "Criminal Minds" and "Elementary." These are new shows.

The Cleveland NBC station plans to do it this week, as well. If it wants to continue to substitute shows, here are my suggestions. If it wants to skew young, "Heckle and Jeckle." Maybe add "Golden Girls" for the plus-55 group. It does star America's favorite sweetheart, Betty White, For the all-important 25-45 niche, there's "Dawson's Creek."

Jon Stewart is taking a three-month break from his award-winning Comedy Central talk show, "The Daily Show." No, he is not planning a trip to France for wine season. He is going to write and direct a movie based on the book "Rosewater." "Rosewater" is the true story of a BBC reporter who was held hostage in Iran for almost 120 days.

John Oliver is set to take over hosting duties for at least two months.

DALLAS: With much scheming, John Ross and Sue Ellen taking over Ewing Energies. A proud John Ross calls his dad J.R., who is in Abu Dhabi. His adversaries Christopher and Bobby may be down, but they are not out. The duo plots to destroy the company unless Sue Ellen surrenders some of her stock. They inform John Ross they will not tell him where the source of the green methane is. John Ross gives a "So what?" when he says Ewing does not need the source to be a success. Christopher reminds him they plan to race the clean-methane-using car at the Speedway next week. People will be so impressed when they win the race that the only way Ewing can succeed is by producing clean energy. When Christopher's team wins the race, a vanquished John Ross calls his dad. As J.R. is professing his love for his son, John Ross hears shots ring out. SNEAK PEEK: The end of an era.

SMASH: Ronnie's stage mother from hell is furious when she learns her daughter is not going to play Dorothy in "Oz" and is doing a one-woman show. Derek, who is producing, still cannot stop his misogynistic ways. Needing a standout original signature song for the production, Jimmy provides it. Eileen tells Nick she knows he is a good man and didn't know he was giving her ill-gotten gains to finance "Bomb Shell." It appears Jerry teamed with Ellis to destroy Eileen's plan to produce "Bomb Shell." Jerry is now producing the Broadway-bound show. Julia is mortified when she attends one of Peter's classes, and he uses it to have his student pick apart her book for "Bomb Shell." Julia turns the tables when she offers one of his flops and his students trash it. Julia decides the book is not working because she was trying to tell Marilyn's story. She shifts the focus to why men were attracted to her.

SNEAK PEEK: Tom warns Julia.
