LYNDA HIRSCH ON SOAPS -- Q&AQ: I enjoyed watching Patrick Duffy on "Bold and Beautiful." Didn't he suffer a personal tragedy while starring as Bobby on "Dallas?" — Regina, Toms Rivers, N.J. A: Yes the actor — who turns 61 this St. Patrick's Day — was stunned when his parents were murdered in 1986. The couple were shot to death during a robbery at a bar they owned in Montana. Teenagers Kenneth Miller and Sean Wentz were captured several days after the murder. Found guilty each was sentenced to 75 years in prison. In 2001, Wentz revealed he acted alone. Wentz remains in prison. Miller was released in 2007. Duffy, devastated by his parents' murder, said at the time that his Buddhist faith allowed him to deal with the tragedy and go on with his life. Duffy was introduced to Nichiren Buddhism by his wife, Carlyn. The couple, who married in 1974, have two sons. Carlyn, a former dancer with the New York City, Ballet is a decade older than her husband. Q: The Oscar winner for this year's documentary looked so familiar. Could I have seen him on a soap opera? — Albert, Nashville, Tenn. A: You could have. Fisher Stevens, who picked up the Academy Award for directing and co-producing "The Cove," played Henry Popkin on "Ryan's Hope" in the mid-1970s.
