This week's Q&A subject is famous actors who were once on soaps.

Q: Was Alec Baldwin ever on a soap opera? My mom says no. She claims it was his brother, Daniel. Do I win? — Rachel in New Orleans

A: You sure do. Alec Baldwin played Billy Aldrich on "The Doctors." Billy was part of a sweet "Romeo and Juliet" type love story.

Q: Tom Selleck on a soap? Never. — Richard in Lexington, Ky.

A: Oh, yes. Selleck played a publisher on "Young and Restless." He recalls with relish how he was let go from the sudser: "I arrive at the studio for my script.

The associate producer says, 'Didn't they tell you that you were let go?'" The reason: They said he was not sexy.

Q: Did Julia Roberts do daytime? — Arlene in Kansas City

A: She tried out for a part on "Another World" but did not get it.

Q: Did Dustin Hoffman ever do a soap opera? — Gerry in San Diego, Calif.

A: Oscar-winner Hoffman was on "Search for Tomorrow" for a short stint — the same time he was doing a commercial for Volkswagen.
