Dress for New Year's Eve on a Budget

Share Comment

Still have one more big party to attend? Is it the biggest evening of them all? New Year's Eve! Why not welcome 2012 in grand style...without spending all of your holiday cash. Sonya Cosentini, spokesperson for T.J. Maxx and Marshall's, has lots of tips on finding the perfect party outfit at budget prices.

"Springing for a new dress or a fun, festive top that can be paired with other items in your wardrobe doesn't have to break the bank," she says. "And don't forget accessories that can be used to make that little black dress or pair of designer jeans more New-Year's-Eve ready!"

Cosentini says, "Adding sparkle and shine always does the trick, whether it's with embellished footwear, clutches or even cocktail rings and bangle bracelets."

Some of her favorite festive outfits for New Year's Eve include metallics and sequins. "Try a sequined camisole," she says. A funky skirt is another option. "Try a feather skirt with a colorful top and heels for a different look," she says. A colorful, one-shoulder dress is an attention-getter, too. "It may be cold outside," she acknowledges, "but once you get into the party, make a statement with a fun, new dress."

Cosentini also suggests adding a pair of embellished heels. "Even if you aren't going to an over-the-top party, a pair of embellished shoes can dress up the most casual look."

Statement jewelry is another way to dress up a party outfit, according to Cosentini, who, this year, likes oversized jewel necklaces, bangles or big cocktail rings.

Here are more specifics from the T.J.
