RELEASE: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2010DEAR STACY: What's become of John Astin of "The Addams Family" fame? Is he still with us? — Russell W., Astoria, N.Y. DEAR RUSSELL: Astin, 80, has slowed down from the ultra-prolific pace he used to keep, but continues his dual career as an actor and teacher of acting and directing in the Writing Seminars Department of Johns Hopkins University, his alma mater. (He can be seen singing and playing cowbell in a music video released by the university last year.) With some 40 movie credits and countless TV show appearances, he also toured the one-man play "Edgar Allan Poe: Once Upon a Midnight" in 2007. Astin, a practicing Buddhist, has five sons, three with his first wife and two — actors Sean and Mackenzie — with second wife Patty Duke. He also has five granddaughters. He and present wife Valerie Ann Sandobal live in Baltimore, Md. DEAR STACY: Whatever happened to Lorenzo Lamas? I haven't seen him lately. — Nina D., Allentown, Pa. DEAR NINA: Lamas had his own 2009 reality show, "Leave it to Lamas," on the E! channel. It depicted his real-life family — ex-wife Michelle Smith, their two children, 24-year-old model and actress Shayne and 25-year-old actor son A.J., and Michelle's other children. They're a very soap-opera-esque bunch, with conflicts such as the feud between Lorenzo and A.J. over Lorenzo's belief that his son slept with his fourth ex-wife. Fans started a petition drive asking for a second season of the show, to no avail.
DEAR STACY: I've been watching and enjoying "House" for years and would like to know about Hugh Laurie's personal life. Does he have a family? Age? Background? — V.B., Canton, Ohio DEAR V.B.: Laurie, 51, has been married to wife Jo, a theater administrator, since 1989. They have three children, Charlie (who turns 21 in November), Bill (who'll be 20 in January) and Rebecca (17). He was born and raised in Oxford, England, and studied at Eton and then Selwyn College, Cambridge, where he earned a degree in anthropology and archaeology — and discovered theater. He became president of Cambridge's famed Footlights theater company, where his VP was Emma Thompson, and where he also became friends with Stephen Fry, who was to become his comedy partner of Jeeves & Wooster fame. Laurie was known as a comedian, character actor and novelist prior to "House," and his feature credits range from "Stuart Little" to Thompson's "Sense and Sensibility." DEAR STACY: Can you please tell me what was the cause of death of actor Tim McIntire, who was in movies like "Brubaker" and "Gumball Rally"? He was the son of Jeannette Nolan. I heard he died quite a while ago, but he wasn't that old. — Jen N., Pearblossom, Calif. DEAR JEN: McIntire passed away at age 41 in 1986 due to congestive heart failure.
