DEAR STACY: Can you tell me if the Hill in Hill Harper's name is short for something else? Please tell a little about him. Is he married? True he's a friend of President Obama? — Jeri C., Clearwater, Fla.

DEAR JERI: Hill is a nickname. His given name is Francis. Harper met his friend, the future president, when the two were both law students at Harvard and they played basketball together. He hails from Iowa City, Iowa, the son of a psychiatrist (his father) and an anesthesiologist (his mom). As smart as he is handsome, the never-married 45-year-old "CSI: New York" actor graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and graduated with a J.D. (cum laude) from Harvard Law School, as well as with a master's in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government. However, he was always enticed by acting, having worked professionally doing commercials even as a child. While in college, he gravitated toward theater arts, joining Boston's Black Folks Theater Company. He never practiced law. Being cast by Spike Lee in the big screen "Get on the Bus" marked a turning point. His many previous credits include the highly regarded series "City of Angels" and indie film "The Visit."

DEAR STACY: How is Andy Whitfield? — Jordan B., Newark, N.J.

DEAR JORDAN: The "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" actor, who had to drop out of the Starz series permanently in September to fight a recurrence of his Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, has been keeping a low profile. However, series creator Steven S. DeKnight told a group at an Emmy consideration screening put on by The Wrap in June that he and Whitfield have been talking about collaborating on another project. Said DeKnight: "I have the utmost faith that Andy and I will work together again." We certainly hope they can.

DEAR STACY: What's become of Louie Anderson of "Family Feud"? — Hal T., Abilene, Texas

DEAR HAL: Anderson, 58, is busy, busy, busy with live appearances all around the country, as well his Las Vegas base, the Louie Anderson Theater at the Palace Station. Though not seen as regularly on TV as he was during his "Feud" days, which ended in 2002, the comic and author still turns up occasionally as a guest on episodic series and late-night shows.

DEAR STACY: Whatever happened to Bert Parks? — Betty D., Cedar Rapids, Iowa

DEAR BETTY: The longtime host of the Miss America Pageant died of lung cancer in 1992.
