Mia Michaels-Sting Collaboration Possible for Her B'way ShowLook out, Broadway. "So You Think You Can Dance" judge and choreographer extraordinaire Mia Michaels has started taking her first steps toward formation of the show she'll be bringing to New York next year, including, she reveals, talking to Sting about doing the music. She also has had discussions with a couple of noteworthy actors and indicates we might see some of our favorite faces from "SYTYCD" in her stage production. "Absolutely, I would use them," she says. Up till now, Michaels has had the current season of the hit Fox show at the forefront of her mind. With tonight's (8/12) final episode of summer 2010 — and either Kent Boyd, Lauren Froderman or Robert Roldan due to be named the winner — she's psyched up to "make it all about celebrating the kids and their journey, how far they've come from day one. It should be fun-filled. There's going to be recaps. There's going to be surprises. I'm so looking forward to it." Viewers already got a preview of sorts of Michaels' upcoming stage extravaganza. "The last group number I did was kind of a little seed of exploration of what my Broadway show is going to be," she reveals. Mounting of the yet-untitled theatrical production, which she'll direct as well as choreograph, is being followed for a Bravo series about the ultra-hot dance talent. "Yes, it is a doc series — a 'making of' — but it's going to have my Mia twist in there, so it's not going to be typical. It's going to have some other elements," she says. Everything will pop in 2011, if all goes according to plan. Potentially, she'll be doing both new projects and "SYTYCD" simultaneously. Michaels is definite that she wants to continue as a judge on the competition show, and says the criticism she and fellow judges Adam Shankman and Nigel Lythgoe have taken this season has not dampened her enthusiasm. "I love being back on 'So You Think.' I love being a part of it. I feel like my title has become so Mama Mia, and I love that. I think that next season, if they ask me back, people will start getting used to me and knowing where my heart is and where my words come from," she adds, referring to knocks she's been getting for her harshness toward certain dancers. "I think now, people are a little taken aback, but I think in time, they'll see I'm coming from a good place." A SHAME: Here's hoping Montana Fishburne's career goes down in flames as soon as possible and she gets some psychological counseling.
This is the latest bucket full of excreta in the current media sea of young people degrading themselves to get attention, along with body-baring, acquaintance-groping "reality" shows like "Dating in the Dark" all over the tube, sex being used to market clothing to not only teens, but kids as well, and a variety of skuzzy characters (Snooki) fit for police lineups being lionized as today's hot celebrities. We are sad for Laurence Fishburne, whose daughter apparently doesn't get that it's not her doing the nasty in public that's bringing her notoriety — it's the shameful spectacle of a young woman humiliating her famous father. Or maybe she does get that. ON THE PERSONAL SIDE: Michael Vartan, who is planning to marry fiancee Lauren Skaar next April in California, tells us, "She's from Minnesota, and I would have loved to have gotten married in a little church there, but most of the people we know are out here." Still, the "HawthoRNe" star is impressed by the people of that Land of 10,000 Lakes. Minnesotans, he's found, "are salt of the earth people, so easy to get along with." You betcha. GOOD SPORT: "Zeke and Luther's" Hutch Dano says the biggest challenge of making his "Den Brother" movie that debuts tomorrow (8/13) on the Disney Channel was trading his wheels for blades — as in going from skateboarding to ice hockey. "I trained a couple of months beforehand. I trained as much as I could to do my own stunts. I rollerbladed a lot when I was younger, and I played roller hockey," he says. "But I hadn't ice skated. I knew there was no way they were going to make me an amazing hockey player — but they could make me look like an amazing hockey player." He's found, "I love to ice skate. The best thing for me now is when I get to go out on the ice." Dano plays an arrogant high school hockey star who gets roped into leading his little sister's Bumble Bee troupe as a punishment. Interacting with little girls was a stunt for which he didn't have to train. "I have a little sister who is about the age of the girls in 'Den Brother,' so I know how to talk to little girls because of my sister and her friends."
