Hectic Days for Soon-to-Feast Jimmy Kimmel/Anniston's Singing Cowgirl Convict Project Moves AlongIt's a hectic time for Jimmy Kimmel, who's juggling work on his late-night ABC show with preps and promotions for the 6th Annual Precious Cheese Feast of San Gennaro Italian festival. It'll kick off with a gala fundraiser one week from today, followed by a food-and-fun extravaganza Sept. 28-30. Fortunately for him, this year's festivities are being held in Hollywood, behind the studio where he tapes his show. "That makes it very convenient for me, having it right back there," notes Kimmel. "We'll do a runner with the feast that Thursday on the show. Danny DeVito is going to make Limoncello ices for everybody. That's his plan. Joe Mantegna will be there, Mario Batali. We try to invite everyone with a vowel at the end of their name." Honorees are John Paul DeJoria and Frankie Valli. "'Jersey Boys' is such a big deal," Kimmel says, speaking of the Tony-winning musical about Valli and the Four Seasons that is soon to hit Los Angeles. "Someone said, 'Why don't we get them to come sing? And I said, 'Why don't we get Frankie Valli? I love Frankie Valli!'" Kimmel says his kids, Kevin and Katie, are actively involved, too. "My son has appointed himself head of the carnival rides. He's 13, and takes it really seriously. No one has more passion for rides than a 13-year-old guy." He's hoping the event, founded by him and comedy cohort Adam Carolla, will surpass last year's 50,000 visitors, and will "raise even more money this year. Our foundation has a lot of causes, helping the homeless and kids." Meanwhile, Kimmel tells us, "I think we'll be doing some kind of prime-time specials with the show this year. … I feel like if I can do well, more people will get a chance to see the show." And how about him and girlfriend Sarah Silverman — is there a wedding in their future? "Not that I know of," Kimmel says. AND YOU THINK YOU'VE GOT IT BAD: Writer-producer Margaret Nagle reports plans are in the works for a sequel to her Emmy-winning (it took five out of 16 nominations in '05) "Warm Springs" historical drama about President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. She'll be getting to that once she gets a break from "Side Order of Life," her acclaimed Lifetime dramedy. And after she does whatever work becomes necessary on "The Goree Girls" for Jennifer Aniston. The latter project, which tells the true story of a singing cowgirl western group that became a national sensation in the 1940s — the gals were in prison in Texas together — has a completed script and is awaiting a director.
Nagle is passionate about depicting the next chapters of FDR's life and reminding people "what he went through, becoming president when this country was in its gravest crisis, the Great Depression. It's so shocking to realize, they had 75 percent unemployment, money no longer meant anything, the birth rate had leveled off, and suicide and mortality rates had tripled. Many people actually believed we would be better off with a dictatorship than democracy." The prolific — and obviously eclectic — talent is currently up to her eyebrows in work as creator, writer and producer of "Side Order of Life," which "is a seven-day show, which means we work much faster than a normal show. 'Grey's Anatomy,' for instance, is an 8-day show, and they have three times our budget." THE BIG-SCREEN SCENE: Madeline Zima says she plays a teen of opposite extremes in the upcoming big-screen Haylie Duff starrer, "Legacy," about three sorority murder suspects. "I play a sorority girl who's got an eating disorder," says Zima, who's also currently co-starring with David Duchovny in the Showtime series "Californication." She says her teen character is a tyrant when it comes to food — she "won't allow herself to eat and has to take it away from her friends because nobody else can enjoy a cookie if she can't. And she's always looking for a guy because she feels so empty all the time. She's starving for love. It's a black comedy, so I'm a little more on the promiscuous side. In one scene, I think there are three guys I drag up to my room. It was fun … my first leading role in a teen-genre film." TAKING OFF: Actor/mixed-martial-artist/TV host Jason Chambers is handsome, he's athletic, and he has a successful show with his History Channel "Human Weapon" series. But it's not all roses. Constantly on the go while filming episodes of the show, his recent treks have taken him to Cambodia, Malaysia, China and Russia. Say, Jason, you must have racked up great frequent flier miles by now! "I'm an idiot. I didn't think to start that," he admits. "Besides, they've had me flying on weird airlines — 15 hours in coach." After a short pause, Jason adds, "That's going to change." (With reports by Stephanie DuBois and Emily Feimster.)
