Dean Cain Getting Ready For a Really, Really Bad 'Vacation'/Gary Sinise Wouldn't Mind His Kids Going Into Show BusinessDean Cain, who has The Hallmark Channel's "The Gambler, the Girl and the Gunslinger" ready for airing July 11, is enjoying some highly prized togetherness time with his 9-year-old son as the holiday weekend approaches. Soon he'll be heading off for England and Morocco locations to make director Richard Stanley's "Vacation" — which, despite the similarity in titles, couldn't be much further from those National Lampoon comedies of times past. "It's a really heavy-duty drama, a post-apocalyptic story that takes place on a third-world island," says Dean. He'll play half a couple who find themselves stranded when their exotic vacation getaway turns into a real-life nightmare. "Everything shuts down — the economy, ATM machines … It's very adult, this film. This couple is not in the happiest of places." Cain says he knows who'll be his leading lady, "but they haven't finished her deal, so I can't say yet." Stanley has been saying that this could be an image-changing movie for the actor who rose to fame in "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman." It's actually the latest in a run of wildly diverse roles Dean has been taking on in recent times. "I think being versatile is really important in this economy," he notes. "I look at the last month, and all the things going on: I have the commercials for IE8, two kids' movies, a psychological thriller (the upcoming indie "Abandoned" with Brittany Murphy), a game show that friends of mine are doing — something I could do for not too much time … " First up, the lighthearted "The Gambler, the Girl and the Gunslinger" with James Tupper and Allison Hossack. It's Dean's first western. He likes it so much, he hopes there's a sequel. "I'll tell you what — I'll show up for it. I'll tell you that right now," says Dean, who plays the gambler at odds with Tupper's sharpshooter character over a ranch and a lady. "If James wants to, I'm in.
ON THE PERSONAL SIDE: Gary Sinise tells us he wouldn't mind if his children wind up in show business. "My son is a drummer. He's very dedicated. I think that music is going to be his thing," says the "CSI: NY" star. He and wife Moira Harris have 20- and 16-year-old daughters in addition to their 18-year-old son. "My oldest likes acting," he adds. "She does a little in college. I don't know how far she'll go with it. I don't know about the younger one. "I just want them to do whatever they need to do to be healthy and happy," he sums up. The Emmy-winning actor has his musician hat on all summer. He and his Lt. Dan Band have a full agenda of concert dates — USO events at military installations here and overseas, and also public gigs, like their Rockin' For the Troops 2009 Benefit Concert coming up July 18 in Wheaton, Ill., and their Avalon Theatre, Fallsview Casino concert July 24 at Niagara Falls. BOTTOM TROLLERS: Looking at some of the casting notices making the rounds the last few days, you'd get the sense you're reading calls for porn flicks through some underground network. But no, they're mainstream releases to be found at major agencies, folks. For instance: "Slumdog Virgin," a feature for which casting forces are auditioning exotic twentysomething beauties — "think Kim Kardashian" — as potential seductresses for a 40-year-old virgin. And then there's a non-union film called "Nude Nuns with Big Guns," which advises potential cast members that nudity will be required and a simulated rape scene is included. The story centers on a young and naive nun forced into prostitution and drug running in a corrupt parish led by a very bad priest and mother superior. After the main character is left for dead, she has "a spiritual awakening" and "sets out to dispense judgment day" on those who've wronged her. Sigh. With reports by Emily-Fortune Feimster.
