Ask Stacy -- Week of November 19DEAR STACY: Can you please give me some background information on Mila Kunis? I guess I'm a latecomer, but I never saw her before "Black Swan." Amazing performance! — N.P., Canton, Ohio DEAR N.P.: The dark-haired beauty, who rose to fame on "That '70s Show," began life in Kiev, Ukraine. She was the daughter of a mechanical engineer father and physics teacher mom. The family relocated to the U.S. when Mila was 7 years old — when Ukraine was granted its sovereignty — and wound up in Los Angeles' Fairfax District, home to many Russian Jewish immigrants. When she was 9, her father (who became president of a cab company while her mother managed a drugstore) enrolled her in acting classes in nearby Beverly Hills. Mila caught the eye of a talent manager when her class gave a showcase, and she soon landed a role in daytime's "Days of Our Lives," in addition to commercial work. She guested on numerous prime-time series and took roles in TV movies. In 1998, she played the 11-year-old version of doomed supermodel Gia Carangi in the acclaimed HBO film "Gia," with Angelina Jolie playing Gia as an adult. At age 14, she won the role of the high maintenance, all-American girlfriend, Jackie, on "That '70s Show." Other credits include "Family Guy" (as the voice of Meg Griffin) and the big-screen "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," "Friends with Benefits" and "The Book of Eli." Next up for the actress and former girlfriend of Macaulay Culkin are the features "Ted" (with Mark Wahlberg, a story of a teddy bear that's alive) and "Oz: The Great and Powerful," with James Franco. DEAR STACY: Please settle a bet.
DEAR LAUREN: Yes, that's the so-called horror comedy "ThanksKilling." I hope for your sake you can win the bet without actually having to watch it. DEAR STACY: Whatever became of the actress Debralee Scott? — Jim K., Evanston, Ill. DEAR JIM: The "Welcome Back, Kotter" and "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" actress, also fondly remembered by "American Graffitti" fans as the girl who chirped "Ain't he neat?!" as she rode along with Harrison Ford, died April 5, 2005, three days after her 52nd birthday. Scott had been engaged to New York Port Authority officer John Dennis Levi, who was killed in the collapse of the World Trade Center on 9/11. Her sister, Jerri Scott, was quoted as saying Debralee never got over his death, and his mother, Joanne Priavity, was quoted as saying that the actress had developed a drinking problem that had destroyed her health. Scott reportedly moved to Florida from New York earlier in '05 in the hope of starting a new life. Sad story.
