Ask Stacy -- Week of December 3

DEAR STACY: Curtis Stone is my favorite of the reality show celebrity chefs. I don't know anything about him other than he's as cute as his Aussie accent. How about some dish, so to speak? — J.G., Newark, N.J.

DEAR J.G.: Stone is a new dad at age 36. He and actress Lindsay Price ("Beverly Hills, 90210"), who've been together since 2009, have a month-old baby son, Hudson.

The chef hails from Melbourne, Australia, where he began cooking with his grandmother as a lad of 5. He was studying for a bachelor's degree in business before realizing he belonged in the world of food. He began his cooking career at Melbourne's Savoy Hotel as a teenager.

He worked with many European and British chefs there before heading to Europe to gain more experience. In London, he worked with renowned chef Marco Pierre White — and made his first major breakthrough, gaining acclaim as head chef of Marco's Quo Vadis restaurant.

A natural for TV, he did cooking shows in the U.K. and Australia before starting his hit show, "Take Home Chef," on TLC here in the States. Since then, he's racked up credits from "Celebrity Apprentice" to "The Biggest Loser"; he's come out with cookbooks and a line of cookware; and he's been named one of People Magazine's Sexiest Men Alive.

DEAR STACY: I was wondering about Scott Speedman, who used to make my heart flutter when he played Ben Covington on "Felicity." What has he been up to? Is he married? — Paula N., Fullerton, Calif.

DEAR PAULA: The London-born, Toronto-bred star plays the title character in "Edwin Boyd" — the story of a real-life 1950s Canadian bank robber and folk hero — which was a prize winner at the Toronto International Film Festival last summer. It has been picked up for U.S. as well as Canadian distribution, but no release date has been announced on either side of the border as yet.

Speedman is also in "The Vow," the romantic drama set for release Valentine's Day, 2012.

He's part of a cast that includes Rachel McAdams, Channing Tatum, Jeffrey Donovan, Lucas Grabeel, Sam Neill and Jessica Lange.

Speedman is not married, but he's linked with Australian actress Teresa Palmer.

DEAR STACY: My husband and I used to watch "The Steve Harvey Show" regularly and were shocked and saddened when Merlin Santana, who played Romeo, was shot and killed. Whatever happened in that case? — Naomi S., Cedar Rapids, Iowa

DEAR NAOMI: Santana was a mere 26 years old when he was shot in the head while sitting in a friend's car on Nov. 9, 2002. He'd been falsely accused of rape by a 15-year-old girl, which provoked her two young male friends to attack him.

In 2004, Monique King was convicted of second-degree murder and attempted murder and sentenced to eight years in juvenile prison for her role in the crime. Damien Gates was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences plus 70 years after he was convicted of first-degree murder and attempted murder in the case, and Brandon Bynes got 23 years in prison after he pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon.

DEAR STACY: I read that Johnny Depp has a brother who is a writer. Can you tell us about him? Does Depp have other brothers or sisters? Are they also in show business? — Amanda R., Spokane, Wash.

DEAR AMANDA: Johnny's maternal half-brother, Danny (born Nov. 14, 1953), is a screenwriter who goes by the name D.P. Depp. He co-wrote the 1997 screenplay "The Brave," which Johnny directed and in which he starred with Marlon Brando. However, D.P., who's also been a bookstore owner, hasn't had any major film credits since. Johnny has said in interviews that he adores D.P. and considers him a "genius, genius brain."

Maternal half-sister Debbie (Born May 10, 1956) is a school teacher in Kentucky and prefers to stay out of the limelight. Depp's sister, Christie Dembrowski, born Dec. 2, 1960, has been his personal assistant on a number of his movies, leads his Infinitum Nihil production company ("The Rum Diary," "Dark Shadows," etc.) and acts as his personal manager.
