Ask Stacy - Week of August 14, 2010DEAR STACY: On the Carl's Jr. Hawaiian teriyaki chicken sandwich commercial with the surfer guy in the van, I know what the voiceover is supposed to sound like it means, but what is the actual translation of those Hawaiian words? — Charles S., El Segundo, Calif. DEAR CHARLES: Are you referring to the line "When a guy can't get his wahine to put some hala-kahiki all over his moa, then he's got to go someplace else"? It roughly translates as when a guy can't get his woman to put some pineapple all over his chicken, etc. Aznuts — but effective. DEAR STACY: Whatever happened to Cynthia Rhodes of "Dirty Dancing" fame? She seems to have disappeared. — Alicia E., Newark, N.J. DEAR ALICIA: Rhodes appeared in several other movies, including "Flashdance," "One from the Heart," "Xanadu" and the adventure flick "Curse of the Crystal Eye." Then she became lead singer for a group called Animotion, whose producers included Richard Marx (who had been brought in to help with the music on "Dirty Dancing"). Rhodes and Marx fell in love, married and set up their home base in Chicago. She retired from the limelight to concentrate on raising their three sons.
DEAR STACY: Please tell me the name of the song and who performs it at the end of the "Expendables" trailer. — J.H., Long Beach, Calif. DEAR J.H.: There were two rock songs used in different trailers for the Sylvester Stallone picture. One was "Diamond Eyes (Boom-Lay Boom-Lay Boom)" from the band Shinedown (also featured in the film), and the other was Guns N' Roses' "Paradise City." DEAR STACY: Whose voice is that on the commercial for the Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid? I'm used to hearing the familiar voice of Richard "John-Boy" Thomas on the Mercedes ads. — Chris M., Allentown, Pa. DEAR CHRIS: Jon Hamm of "Mad Men" took over the Mercedes voiceover pitchman gig from Thomas as of this past March. DEAR STACY: Could you tell me whether Penny and Garry Marshall are related to the late director George Marshall? — J.D.M, Albuquerque, N.M. DEAR J.D.M.: No, Penny and Garry are not kin of the famous Western director of "How the West Was Won," "Destry Rides Again" and other vintage Paramount film fare.
