Ask Stacy -- Week of 5/11/13Ask Stacy for May 11-12 DEAR STACY: There's a cute commercial with a dad who gets his Kia SUV into a tight parking spot because it has folding mirrors. Can you tell me the name of the song used in it? It's kinda catchy. — Andy A., Carlsbad, Calif. DEAR ANDY: That Kia Sorento SUV spot features the tune "Beep-Beep-Beep" by Bobby Day. DEAR STACY: Randy Jackson acts as if he's one of the biggest music experts on the planet, but I've only heard of him as a backup musician and name-dropping record company executive. But he never was a star himself before "Idol." What is his biggest claim to fame outside of "American Idol" judging? — Amanda D., Spokane, Wash. DEAR AMANDA: While Jackson never headlined a stadium tour, he certainly has industry cred. He played bass and keyboards on over 1000 albums — working with names including Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Cher, Elton John, Madonna, Tracy Chapman, Kenny G and Bruce Springsteen. He also served as senior vice president of A&R for MCA Records and vice president of A&R for Columbia Records. His songwriting credits include two songs on Mariah Carey's "CharmBracelet" album of a decade ago — "My Saving Grace" and "Irresistible." His producing credits include Gladys Knight's "At Last." DEAR STACY: A friend says that Ellen DeGeneres was briefly on the LPGA tour before going into show business.
DEAR GINA: No. Although she had enough talent that she considered a career in golf, she never turned pro. She's still pretty impressive — as a challenge she did on her show, firing chip shots with guest Tiger Woods in 2006, indicates. The clip is on YouTube. DEAR STACY: Whatever became of Paul Michael Glaser's son? — Alana C., Santa Ana, Calif. DEAR ALANA: Jake Glaser, 28, continues to be a hard-working activist in the fight against HIV/AIDS. For years, he's been a spokesman for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation founded by his late mother — who contracted the disease through a tainted blood transfusion and unwittingly passed it on to his sister, who died at age seven, and to Jake. He has delayed disease progression thanks to a gene mutation he inherited from his father. His efforts have taken him to college campuses for speaking engagements, to Africa — and to "The Apprentice," on which he was seen talking about the Foundation's work in 2005. He writes for the Huffington Post. Athletic and handsome, the former George Washington University student has done video production and says he likes working behind the scenes in show business.
