Ask Stacy -- Week of 4/6/13DEAR STACY: I have become a fan of "Bomb Girls" on REELZ. All the girls are great, but Jodi Balfour, who plays Gladys, is a standout. She reminds me of the young Jaclyn Smith. Can you give some background, please? — Chris G., Warren, Ohio DEAR CHRIS: South African actress Jodi Balfour is on an upward career trajectory, with not only her international hit series but two indie films on the way also. A finalist in the Miss Africa pageant of 2008, when she was 21, she ventured to Vancouver, Canada only a little over two years ago. She wanted to be near her parents, who live on Vancouver Island, and to look for acting opportunities. She soon managed to snag the plum "Bomb Girls" role of wealthy, reckless Gladys Whitmore, who works on the floor of a munitions factory during World War II trying to prove she's more than just a rich girl. Balfour has also opened a coffee shop in Vancouver with two friends, and she plays ukulele and harmonica for fun. DEAR STACY: Can you tell me whether there are any plans to bring back "Deal Or No Deal"? I used to really like that show.
DEAR LACEY: "AGT" returns June 4, with veteran judges Howard Stern and Howie Mandel being joined by new additions Heidi Klum and Mel B. As far as "DOND," no such plans have been announced. DEAR STACY: I heard that Conan O'Brien and Denis Leary are cousins. Any truth? I see zero resemblance. — Joanne H., New Port Richey, Fla. DEAR JOANNE: They are third cousins through marriage. DEAR STACY: Whatever happened to Mary Frann, who played the wife of Bob Newhart on "Newhart"? — E.S., Canton, Ohio DEAR E.S.: Frann died in 1998 at age 55. Although there was much speculation in the tabloids that her death had been induced by radical weight control measures, the L.A coroner found that she died of a heart attack owing to an undiagnosed condition, a scarring of heart muscle tissue called lipomatosis with fibrosis.
