Ask Stacey, March 6DEAR STACY: I've read that Maura Tierney had to drop out of the "Parenthood" series due to breast cancer. How is she doing now? — Teri L., Canton, Ohio DEAR TERI: Tierney is back to work after treatment for her cancer. She's doing the satirical military play "North Atlantic,'' which already ran in Los Angeles and has a New York run beginning March 10 through April 25. Frances McDormand and Scott Shepherd also star. Tierney's also expected back on Denis Leary's "Rescue Me" in the currently shooting season. DEAR STACY: I'm a big fan of Laura Prepon. Is she appearing in anything soon? — J.F., Maybrook, N.Y. DEAR J.F.: "That '70s Show" alumna Prepon is back in the comedy game — after her dramatic turn in the short-lived "October Road" series — co-starring opposite Danny Wallace in the pilot, "Awkward Situations for Men." He plays a British TV personality who has trouble adjusting to life in the U.S. in the prospective ABC show. She plays his wife. Prepon had guest roles on "In Plain Sight" and "How I Met Your Mother" last year. DEAR STACY: I was surprised to hear that singer Laura Branigan had died. What was the cause? — Chris P., St. Louis DEAR CHRIS: Branigan, who scored hits with such pop tunes as "Self Control" and "Gloria," died in 2004 of a brain aneurysm. She was 47. DEAR STACY: What is the name of the child actor who played Barbara Hershey's daughter in "Beaches"? She did an amazing acting job. — Robert S., Wayne, N.J. DEAR ROBERT: Grace Johnston, now a beautiful 28-year-old, left the business behind for years because, according to her, "I went to school. I wanted to finish school, and I did. I just recently came back." She started her comeback run in '07 and has since appeared in small roles in productions including Chazz Palminteri's "Once More with Feeling," an episode of "The Closer" last year, and 2007's indie feature "The Metrosexual," but she has yet to find a vehicle to propel her into the public eye in a consistent way.
DEAR STACY: What are Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs and George Tillman Jr. up to now? — R.H., Bronx, N.Y. DEAR R.H.: Producer-director Tillman ("Soul Food," "Men of Honor," "Notorious") is making an action-thriller called "Faster" with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Billy Bob Thornton. Actor-musician Hilton-Jacobs has done guest roles ("That's So Raven," "Gilmore Girls") and indie films in recent years, along with stage work including gospel musicals. He's also a composer, keyboardist and singer. The former "Welcome Back, Kotter" regular is in a direct-to-DVD comedy called "Hollywont" that has a cast including Robert Wagner, Eddie Griffin, Shar Jackson, Dee Wallace, David Faustino and Dawnn Lewis. The makers are aiming for a release this year. DEAR STACY: Me and my boyfriend made a bet. Whoever wins buys dinner for the other. He said David Canary was a member of the "Bonanza" Cartwright family and the last one who is still alive. I say it was Pernell Roberts. — Bernette M., Mount Vernon, N.Y. DEAR BERNETTE: Roberts, who passed away in January at age 81, was the last surviving Cartwright. Long-time "All My Children" actor David Canary didn't play a family member. His character was Ponderosa ranch foreman "Candy" Canaday, which he played from 1967-1970, plus 1972-1973. DEAR STACY: Are Seth Meyers and Josh Meyers brothers? They resemble each other. If so, which one is the eldest? — P.S., Spokane, Wash. DEAR P.S.: Josh, who rose to fame on "Mad TV," is the two-years-younger sibling of "SNL's" Seth.
