Ask StacyDEAR STACY: Melissa George on "In Treatment" on HBO looks very familiar, but I can't place her. Can you give some background on this beautiful actress, including credits and marital status? — Stan H., Coram, N.Y. DEAR STAN: Nicknamed "Gorgeous George," 31-year-old, Perth, Australia-born Melissa is a former Australian national roller-skating champion who traveled the world performing routines, becoming a silver medalist in 1991's Junior World Championship. She began modeling in her early teens. She was Western Australia's Teenage Model of the Year in 1992. At 16, she landed a role in the Aussie soap opera "Home and Away," and at 21, in her first U.S. series, "Roar" — opposite the late Heath Ledger. After that, she moved to Los Angeles and began piling up credits in series including "Charmed," "Monk" and "Friends" (in which she played Rachel's lesbian nanny). You probably remember her from "Alias," in which she played Lauren Reed, the double-agent ex-wife of Michael Vartan's character. Her big-screen credits include the Josh Hartnett thriller "Turistas," the inspirational Richard Pimentel biographical drama "The Music Within" and the high school comedy "Sugar & Spice." She lives in Los Angeles with her Chile-born husband, Claudio Dabed, and his daughter, who was born in 1995. DEAR STACY: I was told by a friend that the actor who played Ares on "Xena: Warrior Princess" died a long time ago in some kind of accident. I'd like to know what happened to him. He was young, wasn't he? — Karen G., Cleveland, Ohio DEAR KAREN: In 2002, at age 38, Kevin Smith suffered a severe head injury in a fall from a building in Beijing, China, and died 10 days later, leaving behind his wife and three young sons. He had just completed filming of "Warriors of Virtue II" in Beijing when it happened. DEAR STACY: Please tell me what happened to the actor who starred in "House Party" with Martin Lawrence and Kid 'n Play.
DEAR M.A.: Popular comedic actor Daryl "Chill" Mitchell was paralyzed from the waist down in a 2001 motorcycle accident. He's certainly continued to work since then: He was on the series "Ed" from 2002-2004 as a bowling alley manager and appeared in guest spots on shows including "The Game" and "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody." Married and the father of four, Mitchell also serves as Minority Outreach spokesman for the Christopher Reeve Foundation, and he has his own Daryl Mitchell Foundation to raise awareness of spinal cord injuries. DEAR STACY: Is Frankie Muniz of Hispanic origin? — R.R., Torrance, Calif. DEAR R.R.: The "Malcolm in the Middle" star-turned-auto-racer was born Francisco Muniz IV, Puerto Rican on his father's side and Irish and Italian on his mother's. DEAR STACY: I would like to know where I can get a copy of "Caroline in the City." — Lorraine T., North Bergen, N.J. DEAR LOARRAINE: The 1995-1999 Lea Thompson series has not been released domestically for home viewing. It was brought out on DVD in the United Kingdom and elsewhere several years ago, and transfers of that format are offered through a number of Internet outlets — but remember, quality is by no means guaranteed. DEAR STACY: I have a little bet with a co-worker I am hoping you'll help me to win. I say there were two John-Boys on "The Waltons." My colleague thinks Richard Thomas was the only one. A box of donuts is riding on your answer. — J.J., Brooklyn, N.Y. DEAR J.J.: Lots of sugar ahead for you. Robert Wightman took over the role of John-Boy Walton from Richard Thomas in the long-running series in 1979 and played it until '82. DEAR STACY: As a fan of the old "Dark Shadows" scary soap opera, I'd like to know what's become of Barnabus Collins — actor Jonathan Frid. — Leigh S., Springfield, Mass. DEAR LEIGH: Now 83, Frid is retired and living near the place of his birth in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. With reports by Stephanie DuBois and Emily Feimster.
