Trivia Bits for Tuesday, September 15Saludos, Lectors y Lectoras: Today marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs until Oct. 15. The start date was chosen because five Central American countries celebrate their independence days on Sept. 15, while Mexico's is tomorrow and Chile's is on the 18th. The special month also includes Columbus Day, which is a bit of a touchy issue for Hispanics with aboriginal heritage. Many of them call it Dia de la Raza. Ward Who? Some of our older readers may know Ward Bond from his role on the TV series "Wagon Train." But thanks to his friendship with such directors as John Ford and Frank Capra, he has been in an astronomical number of iconic movies, including "It Happened One Night," "Bringing Up Baby," "Gone with the Wind," "The Grapes of Wrath," "The Maltese Falcon," "It's a Wonderful Life" and "The Searchers." Some hold that he has been in more Best Picture Oscar nominees than anybody else. Take this state's name.
