Amazon Hiring Home-Based Workers
Amazon has joined the ranks of American Express, UnitedHealth Group, The Hartford and many other major companies in hiring employees to work from home. Here are just a few of the Amazon job leads we've recently seen in our research and posted to our job board.
Recruiting coordinator: As Amazon expands its staff of home-based customer service representatives, it needs recruiting coordinators to assist. According to the lead (which, like many others we publish, we found at Indeed.com), "Amazon's virtual customer contact center is growing, and we're adding another recruiting coordinator to our team. ...
"The successful candidate will be responsible for process improvement and acting as a recruiting systems subject matter expert. S/he will also own high volume sourcing, interviewing and hiring work from home customer service and tech support associates and leads, among other roles, in multiple states. S/he will also assist hiring managers through the internal job posting and promotion process."
In this case, applicants may reside in any of the following states: Delaware, Kansas, Kentucky, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Washington or West Virginia.
Customer service associates (greater Seattle, Wash., area): Amazon's hiring of home-based customer service associates is part of a growing trend known as homeshoring — call center agents working from home in the U.S. rather than from an office in India, the Philippines, etc. In this lead, Amazon noted, "These positions will be supporting our virtual contact center.
"This is a regular, permanent position with competitive base pay, a performance-based quarterly bonus, great benefits, stock, time off, an employee discount, and dedicated resources to support your ongoing growth and development." The pay rate is $12.10 per hour, "with the opportunity to earn a quarterly cash bonus."

As you weigh the openings, keep in mind that some companies hire employees and others independent contractors. For tax reasons, some companies that hire independent contractors charge for training and equipment, though they may also pay a higher hourly rate.
