Love Is the Key to Successful Parenting
DR. WALLACE: I am a single parent of an 11-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old son. I had a lot of problems as a teen because my parents were super lenient in controlling me. Let's say I could do almost anything that I wanted with no questions asked.…Read more.
Give Intelligent Young Women a Break
DR. WALLACE: I'm angry that you encourage all girls, even the mentally, emotionally and physically mature young women who happen to be teenagers, not to get involved with older guys. You are dead wrong in your assumption that older guys and teenage …Read more.
Open and Honest Conversation Is Paramount
DR. WALLACE: Please tell me what to do. I'm 20, married three years and the mother of a 2-year-old son. I love my husband very much, but I'm lonely and depressed. My husband works 12 to 16 hours, 6 days a week. I have no friends, no job and no time …Read more.
My Friend's Mother Helps Her Cheat
DR. WALLACE: We have homework four days a week in world history. I do all my homework by myself, but my best friend's mother helps her with hers. I average a B on my homework, but my friend averages an A. I don't believe this is fair. Both of us are …Read more.

Ecstasy is Now an Illegal DrugDR. WALLACE: Please tell me what a "designer drug" is. Are they dangerous and addictive? I'm particularly interested in knowing more about Ecstasy. -- Nameless, Porterville, Calif.
NAMELESS: Designer drugs are produced illegally by people with a certain knowledge of chemistry. These "chemists" modify the molecular structure of illegal drugs to produce similar substances, or analogs, not specifically banned by law. Such substances are still dangerous. Ecstasy is an analog of amphetamines and usually appears as white powder. Analogs are much more potent than the drugs they imitate and many deaths have occurred by overdosing. Unfortunately for the chemists who make Ecstasy, the pushers who sell it and those who use it, Ecstasy has been declared an illegal and dangerous drug. Those connected to it are breaking the law. I'M SORRY THAT I DIDN'T TAKE YOUR ADVICE DR. WALLACE: I wrote to you last year and asked you for advice about dating an older guy. I was 15 and was swept off my feet by Mario, a very handsome guy who was 23. My parents told me I couldn't go out with him and you told me to date someone my own age. I didn't take any of this advice. I told my parents I was no longer seeing Mario, but I continued to see him behind their backs. He picked me up from school and would get me home five minutes before my parents got back from work. I'd go out with him on the weekends and tell my parents I was out with my girlfriends. Everything was wonderful for about three months, and then he started to make a lot of demands.
To make a very long and unhappy story short and happy, I am now dating a guy my own age and we have great fun together. Mario was arrested for statutory rape and is now serving time. Our priest said he will be deported after he serves his time. I'm sorry I didn't take your advice, but I know now that you were right. -- Maria, Santa Ana, Calif. MARIA: As Shakespeare once wrote, "All is well that ends well." You are a fortunate young lady. I'm certain that you now have your life in order. Experience is a wonderful teacher. I'm positive that you have learned a "painful" lesson. Dr. Robert Wallace welcomes questions from readers.
