But she wants to first go into the media business for some experience.

Horrible series of decisions you're about to make, I told her.
Updated: Fri Aug 08, 2014
40c376e777e1f2d0e226b9352a753d93 Senator Rand Paul Is Not Afraid of Black People for 07/16/2014 Wed, 16 Jul 2014 00:00:00 -0700
There is no white Republican elected official today who is coming close to Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul's effort to reach out to black voters.

When the GOP opened an outreach office in Detroit, Paul was there. Earlier this month, he spoke about education reform to a group of African-Americans. Last year, Paul gave a speech at historically black university, Howard University, where he owned up to the party's failure to connect with black voters. And he has taken positions that have irked some in the GOP, including discussing voter suppression efforts and the failures of mandatory minimums in the criminal justice system.

What Paul is doing is not going to these venues and waving the GOP flag. He's raising issues that are in the wheelhouse of black voters and, at least, getting them to listen to his perspective.
Updated: Wed Jul 16, 2014
4b55c27c38400166b14f0b37b8b49a0b Black Elites Look Silly Over 'My Brother's Keeper' Criticism for 06/20/2014 Fri, 20 Jun 2014 00:00:00 -0700
There is no more endangered figure in America than the black man.

A cursory look at the education system, the prison industrial complex, unemployment numbers and mortality rates will show that if you are a minority man in America, you are more likely to be in prison, less educated, underemployed and will die at an earlier age.

Recognizing these dismal stats, President Barack Obama in February launched an audacious initiative to push the philanthropic community to stand in support with community-based groups and assist them in reversing the bleak future for minority men.
Updated: Fri Jun 20, 2014
1d08fe6c2abda5e07e8d8951bc321ab1 UNCF Shouldn't Apologize for $25 Million Koch Brothers Donation for 06/13/2014 Fri, 13 Jun 2014 00:00:00 -0700
The American body politic is so divided, hostile, suspicious and downright angry that even a donation by two right-wing conservative brothers to a group focused on educating African-Americans is considered an assault against our black ancestors.

When it comes to progressive causes, Charles and David Koch are the embodiment of Lucifer. Democrats despise them, accusing them of desiring to take over the nation by spending millions of their billions to elect right-wing conservatives and libertarians to offices nationwide.

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid invokes their name as if they were mass murderers, and liberal TV, radio and online outlets trash them with impunity. As for the Koch brothers, they don't care. They are focused on spending upward of $300 million in this year's election cycle to push candidates they prefer in office.
Updated: Fri Jun 13, 2014
ca8ee7b6cf338b69e74865a19aea6787 The Biggest Enemy for US Veterans: America for 05/16/2014 Fri, 16 May 2014 00:00:00 -0700
We tear up at the emotional TV commercials of soldiers returning home from a deployment; our airlines allow active duty military to board planes first; our politicians do anything they can to post photos standing with our service men and women.

Americans of all persuasions love our men and women in uniform. We smile in one another's face, get along at work, fake congratulate each other, yet when we are in the privacy of our homes, the real us comes rushing out like a mighty river.

Instead of being cowards, let's just be honest: Many of us have negative views when it comes to race.
