Introducing Creators Mobile
Creators Syndicate is proud to announce Creators Mobile, a delivery option for the mobile version of your paper's website. Implementing Creators Mobile can be as simple as including a Javascript tag in your content pages. This page describes the mobile platform and discusses your options in customizing it.
Creators Mobile is a self-loading Javascript frame you place on a page in your mobile website. The platform is not a site on its own, it must be placed on a site operated by your paper.
Creators Mobile currently supports all of our Opinion and Lifestyle columns, Comics and Editorial Cartoons.
Demo
You can see a demo of Creators Mobile at http://www.creators.com/modev/ (please note the supported platforms). In this demo, the blue header and black footer are our representation of a client site, for example your newspaper's site. The content loaded between them is generated by Creators Mobile.
Creators Mobile comes in 2 different formats. As in the demo above, the blue header and black footer are not included with the Creators Mobile platform.
The comic and cartoon format consists of a single image sized to fit the width of the screen. The user can swipe to the left or right to get older or newer images. iPhone users can use multi-touch pinch gestures to enlarge the comic to full-size, allowing for easier reading. Due to an overlooked feature in the Android OS, multitouch gestures cannot be captured by Creators Mobile at this time. A small magnifying glass icon is provided for Android users, which performs the same function as the pinch does.
The column format consists of a list of the last 10 columns published by the specified author. The user is able to see the title of each column, a short excerpt of the text, and the date of publication. When a user taps on any of the columns listed the entire text of the specified column replaces the list of columns. Two buttons appear above and below the column. These bottons allow the user to return to the index of columns.
Supported Platforms
The following browsers are supported by Creators Mobile:
- Mobile Safari (iPhones and iPads)
- Mobile Chrome (Android)
The following browsers have not been fully tested, but should work with no problems:
- Mobile Opera
- Mobile Firefox
Desktop browsers are not supported. This technology is designed specifically for mobile browsers, please make sure your mobile site is limited to mobile browsers before implementing Creators Mobile.
Customizing Creators Mobile
All the styling rules for Creators Mobile can be overridden using your mobile site's Cascading Style Sheet. To override a CSS rule, add the !important tag to the end of a rule overriding another.
