You Can't Do It on Your Own and Political Chicken Fights

Comment

Dear Mark: Conservatives are bashing the president for discussing the fact that successful businesses didn't do it on their own. Mitt Romney and the usual assortment of right-wing nut-jobs are taking the president's words out of context and bashing him as anti-business. It makes me sick, and I hope Obama kicks Romney's butt in November. — Dan the Dem

Dear Dan: President Obama's words weren't taken out of context. On the contrary, they're right in line with his call for "economic justice" and the redistribution of wealth he mentioned to Joe the Plumber in 2008.

His handlers were probably horrified when the president went "off prompter" and he made the following statement: "They know they didn't — look, if you've been successful, you didn't get there on your own. I'm always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I'm just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something, there are a bunch of hardworking people out there."

The president basically went on to say that government was the reason these people were successful. What an absolute insult to the sacrifice, risk and sweat that entrepreneurs and innovators put into their endeavors. If the government is the reason for the success of businesses, then why isn't the entire country rolling in the dough?

Further, the president implied that if it wasn't for roads, bridges and the Internet, businesses would never succeed. I guess all those guys living under bridges are millionaires in waiting. Not to mention all those perverts surfing the net for porn that are starting Fortune 500 companies. Who knew?

Dear Mark: The Democrats are making threats about the looming expiration of the Bush tax cuts.

Patty Murray, some lefty Democrat out of Washington state, is basically saying she'll gladly let the tax rates increase for all Americans unless Republicans agree to increase the taxes on families earning $250,000 or more. She went on about the wealthy paying their fair share, etc., etc. Aren't you tired of hearing that same old idiotic argument? — Jill in Phil

Dear Jill: I've become numb to the rantings of the loony left, but let's get one thing straight: The Bush tax cuts have been in place for so long now that they are the permanent tax rates. Democrats want to continue the "Bush" reference so they don't have to justify the tax increase they are promoting.

Murray's blabber is nothing more than election-year posturing designed to make the Republicans look like they are the party of the rich and greedy. Wow, I didn't see that strategy coming. The reality is that we need a long-term solution involving an overhaul of the tax code, but Washington keeps proposing Band-aids in order to promote political division.

Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell called it "a political game of chicken" — well, I would prefer to see Capitol Hill chicken fights. Picture Barney Frank on Nancy Pelosi's shoulders versus Paul Ryan and John Boehner battling in the capitol reflecting pool. Democrats Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer could take on Republicans Marco Rubio and Rand Paul for the title in the Senate. The youthful Rubio and Paul would easily defeat the dinosaur duo of Reid and Schumer.

But in the House, my money would be on Pelosi and Frank, as Pelosi would go right after Boehner's eyes with the talons she used to ram through Obamacare.

On second thought, scratch that idea, as it looks like we'd end up with gridlock in Washington either way.

Every time this idiot Obama tries to speak without the Teleprompter another amazing, beyond stupid, gaffe emerges. Obama's alleged super intelligence is another creation by the extremely biased mainstream media.

Re: Thetruth;...The great protection of property by government was unique in the history of mankind when it was written into our constitution... English law and their constitution had many protections for wealth from the avarice of her kings, but the constitution, for one example, came into its modern form with many pro property rights ruling by the supreme court...It is not just that the people pay primarily for the roads that all use, and that government is behind all infrastructure; but that the infrastructure that grows old can be easily abandoned by business so soon as it becomes an expense... Enterprise is free... A corporation can more easily and less expensively move a factory than a worker can move his family to follow... But can we move to mexico, or asia to follow our jobs... Our government has said that it was created to achieve justice... If justice does not include social justice and economic justice the entire right side of America can kiss my butt... Some one is shitting them, and they get mad at people with a brain for not going along...
Why should we go along with stupidity that has never worked in the past for us...The rich get the gain, and the poor bear the responsibility.. And the situation is not getting better... Mr. Obama was absolutly right on this one... Our problem is not talented people, or infrastructure sitting and waiting... Our problem is that high profits have sucked all the wealth out of this society, and all the free capital of the people; and government has not taxed, and lives on credit, and the people are broke, living hand to mouth and on credit... No market equals no reason to hire anyone, and the situation is the same the world over... The rich want us to pull the salvation of capitalism out of our ears again, to collectively hand them our piece of the commonwealth to assure their profits... Here is the truth... We could live without them, but they would not live for a second without us, and I dare them to try!!!
Thanks...Sweeney

Sweeney's answer is to make the pie smaller and have a bunch of elitist, corrupt, incompetent fools decide what is fair for each person to get. Of course the results are a lower standard of living for all with everyone being equally miserable except for the corrupt politicians and those that bribe them, as they continue to live high on the hog. That is exactly what is going on in Europe.

His plan has worked so well in North Korea, so I don't see why it won't work for us...

Re: James A, Sweeney It's all those "rich" people holding me back. Take away from the rich and give it to the poor people. From each according to his ability to each according to his need. Marx would be so proud of Sweeny.
