The Gulf Oil Spill and the Gore's DivorceDear Mark: The Obama administration's response to the gulf oil spill has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous. Attorney General Eric Holder and his team of lawyers have gone to the gulf coast to announce a criminal investigation into the oil spill. How in the heck does that stop the massive oil leak? — Shrimp Lover in Louisiana Dear Shrimp: Unless Obama plans on stuffing all of his lawyers into the oil leak, he'd better come up with another strategy. Although that could kill two birds with one stone. Sending in the lawyers instead of more booms and skimmers is a major example of Obama's lack of leadership in his handling of the gulf oil spill tragedy. But you don't have to listen to me. Liberal stalwarts such as James Carville, Maureen Dowd, Jon Stewart and Chris Matthews have all expressed the same opinion about their hero. Obama's first and seemingly only reaction has been to point fingers at BP when America is waiting on a solution. Sending out the administration's legal eagles to threaten BP with criminal prosecution in the heat of the crisis may score political points with the liberal base, but it hasn't done anything to slow the leak. We don't need President Obama reminding us that BP is at fault, but we do need some sign that there is a comprehensive plan in place to protect our gulf coast. Sitting back and "hoping" BP plugs the leak is not leadership, nor is it reassuring to the millions in the gulf coast states whose livelihood is being negatively impacted by the oil slick. I do not hold the president responsible for the spill, but the cleanup and containment definitely falls under his command.
Dear Mark: Is it true that Hollywood director James Cameron has been called in to help with the oil leak in the gulf? — No Way in San Jose Dear No Way: Even though he is part of the Hollywood elite, Cameron is actually considered an expert at underwater filming using "remote vehicle technologies." Notice that his resume does not include capping runaway oil wells one mile under the sea. If the director of "Titanic" can't plug the hole, at least the Obama administration will have plenty of spectacular film footage to use as propaganda to pass his cap-and-trade legislation. Can Michael Moore be far behind? Dear Mark: Nancy Pelosi has actually blamed the Bush administration for the gulf oil disaster. Can she be any more ridiculous? — Fed Up in Freemont Dear Fed Up: Because some of George Bush's appointees are still in place, Pelosi feels she can blame Bush for the disaster. Take it easy on the House speaker. Her mouth runs faster than the spewing oil, while her brain moves slower than the Obama administration's response. Dear Mark: I am saddened at the news of Al and Tipper Gore's divorce after 40 years of marriage. I'm sure a heartless conservative like you delights in bad news involving Democrats. Tell me you're not that cold. — Ruined Romantic in Round Rock Dear Ruined: Actually, I am saddened by divorce whether it involves liberals or conservatives. The only question I have is if the divorce is a result of Vice President Gore's torrid affair with Mother Nature. Dear Mark is a public platform for your enrichment and entertainment.
