RG3, Transactional Sex and Liberals' Intent Versus Reality

Comment

Dear Mark: I am a longtime Dallas Cowboys fan, but I might actually throw some love to RG3, the quarterback of the Washington Redskins, because of a tweet he sent out against political correctness. There is movement to change the team mascot to "Redtails," and the rumor is that Robert Griffin III is against the change. I applaud him and will encourage the Cowboys to sack him gently this season. — Big B in Big D

Dear Big B: Robert Griffin's actual tweet goes as follows: "In a land of freedom we are held hostage by the tyranny of political correctness." The Redskins' team name has been around for 80 years, and I bet you most people don't even realize that at one time it was a racial epitaph. The meaning of words evolve over time, and this one is no different. Move on, people.

Dear Mark: I see that Rep. Barbara Lee of California and several other Democrats have signed onto a resolution that says climate change could lead women into "transactional sex" and therefore more HIV and other STDs. Please tell me that this isn't true and that these aren't the people leading our country. — Ugh

Dear Ugh: I wish I could tell you otherwise, but sadly these are the "Einsteins" running the country. It's not bad enough that the global warming cult followers have forced me to buy government mandated light bulbs and toilets, but now global warming will cause prostitution??

Their strained logic claims that climate change will create unemployment and that desperate women will basically turn tricks in order to make ends meet. Excuse me, but if that's the case then under President Obama's dismal economy, where nearly 6 million women remain unemployed, shouldn't there be "hookers" on every street corner?

According to an article in The Hill, "The resolution calls on Congress to recognize the effects on women, and to use gender specific frameworks in developing policies to address climate change." Sounds like Lee believes that because hurricanes are named after women that they actually hurt women at a disproportionately higher percentage.

Dear Mark: Why don't we just have a law that makes murder illegal? Oh, wait, we already do, and it ain't workin'! So why do the libs think additional gun laws will all of a sudden work? Are we totally void of all common sense as a nation, or is it just my imagination? — TR

Dear TR: It's not your imagination completely; it's just that your figures are off a bit. The United States is not "totally void" of common sense; it appears that after the last election 51 percent of the nation is totally void of common sense.

Here's a lesson for you from Liberalism 101: Actual facts and results matter far less than a person's or piece of legislation's intent. Here are a couple of examples.

Obamacare: The intent was to provide affordable health care to all, which is noble conceptually. The reality is that Obamacare hasn't even been fully implemented, and already it's a bureaucratic boondoggle, with insurance premiums skyrocketing and Harry Reid already asking for more money. Yet liberals are defending this program because of its intent.

Social Security: The intent was to provide seniors with a small income in their later years. Today, Social Security is bankrupting our country, but liberals call it a successful program and refuse to make even the slightest changes.

Need more? The Post Office, Amtrak, food stamps, investments in clean energy — the list could go on. All have good intentions, yet all have been economic failures. But because the intent was good, woe be to anyone who dares disparage their effectiveness or economic viability.
