Obama Cursing, Republican Women and Archaic LawsDear Mark: Why did President Obama resort to using foul language with Matt Lauer on the "Today" show? For a man who is supposed to have such a command of the spoken word, he acted unpresidential while addressing his critics and the BP oil spill. Shouldn't we expect more from this president? — Foul Mouth Foolery in Fort Wayne Dear Foul: Almost everything in politics is calculated, and Obama's use of the line "so I know whose a— to kick" was not an unfortunate slip of the presidential tongue. More than likely that line was a poll-driven, focus-group-tested and market-researched statement designed to fend off criticism that the president has not shown enough emotion during the gulf oil crisis. Forget about curse words, the most vulgar item to come out of the Lauer interview was the revelation from President Obama that he has not even spoken with BP CEO Tony Hayward. The president gave his weak explanation to Lauer when he told him: "I have not spoken to him directly. Here's the reason. Because my experience is, when you talk to a guy like a BP CEO, he's gonna say all the right things to me. I'm not interested in words. I'm interested in actions." Oh, yes, Mr. President, like the actions Mahmoud Ahmadinejad took to stop Iran's nuclear weapons program because you told him to halt the program. Is this the same Barack Obama who would gladly speak to the leaders of foreign countries who are hostile toward the United States without preconditions? The same Barack Obama who sought the advice of Bill Ayers, a member of the terrorist group the Weather Underground? The same Barack Obama who sat in church and listened to an anti-American racist minister for 20 years? Our president will speak to these miscreants but not the CEO of BP? BP may be guilty of causing the gulf oil disaster, but the company is also an integral part of the solution.
Dear Mark: The results of last Tuesday's primaries were tremendous for Republican women candidates. Will these victories finally put to rest the liberal narrative that Republicans are anti-woman? — Loving Ladies in Lewisville Dear Loving: Of course not. Just as having a black Republican National Committee chairman doesn't stop the left from attacking Republicans as being racists, victories by Republican women will not dampen the left's ridiculous "Republicans are anti-woman" argument. On Tuesday night, the mantra "I'm a conservative woman, hear me roar" echoed from California to South Carolina. The left cannot fathom how a woman can be a feminist and also have conservative values. That is why Sarah Palin drives liberals crazy — she is strong, successful, pro-life and popular. Let's see how the left tries to tear apart the likes of Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorino this fall. Dear Mark: I just heard about the woman caught having sex in a New York park being charged with adultery. I know adultery is a sin, but since when did it become a crime? — Non-Puritan in Putnam City Dear Non-Puritan: According to a story in the New York Daily News, the district attorney doesn't even know how long the "adultery" law has been on the books. Former president Bill Clinton was rumored to have said that he "never charges for adultery." Dear Mark is a public platform for your enrichment and entertainment.
