North Korea, White House Comedians and the Flying Pelosi

Comment

Dear Mark: I am concerned about the North Korean attack on South Korea. Kim Jong Il is closer to having full nuclear weaponry. He's also crazy enough to use them or at the very least sell them to people who will gladly use them on freedom-loving countries. What do you think is going to happen? — No Nukes in Nantucket

Dear No Nukes: I'm not sure what will happen, because Kim Jong Il is either rattling his saber because his ego needs some stroking from the world or he's as diabolical as the James Bond villains he admires and truly wants to wreak havoc with nuclear weapons.

The most recent attack by North Korea will be a real test of President Obama's "leadership" on the world stage. Personally, I do not have faith that Obama will act decisively, and his foreign policy track record supports my lack of faith. He did nothing while the blood of Iranian protestors flowed in the streets of Tehran. He continues to sit on his hands while Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad plows full speed ahead into the age of nukes.

The president took far too long deciding on an Afghan war strategy and then seemed more concerned about exiting than winning. Concerning Iraq, Obama has been virtually silent on ensuring a successful transition to a new government. President Obama did nothing when North Korea torpedoed a South Korean Navy frigate, killing 46 innocent sailors earlier this year.

Is Kim Jong Il provoking the world because he senses weakness in Barack Obama? I would bet my bottom dollar that North Korea would not have committed these acts if Ronald Reagan were at the helm of the United States. Anyone remember Libya?

Obama did show his spine by having a presidential spokesperson call on North Korea to "halt its belligerent action." I'm sure Kim Jong Il lost sleep over that.

Is calling an act of war a "belligerent action" as tough as Obama can get? Belligerent describes a customer at Wal-Mart during the Black Friday shopping event — not a murderous dictator bent on conquering the world.

Dear Mark: Politico is reporting that White House speechwriter Jon Lovett is participating in The Funniest Celebrity in Washington competition. Isn't this demeaning to the presidency? — Presidential Protocol in Plano

Dear Protocol: Of course it's demeaning, but the Obama administration has been tone deaf since inauguration. Last year's winner was Obama economic advisor Austan Goolsbee, which is fitting since the Obama economic policies have been nothing but a joke.

Dear Mark: Finally justice is served in the world. The future former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi will have to fly commercial beginning in January. The recent Republican victories are important if for no other reason than to allow Pelosi to feel the pain of us common folk. Will she? — Happy Hank in Hannibal

Dear Happy: It is taking every ounce of my willpower to not make a joke about Pelosi finding plenty of nonstop brooms to San Francisco. That kind of humor is so beneath me. OK, maybe not.

Just because she's losing her government-funded private jet doesn't mean Pelosi will suddenly feel our pain. She will fly first class without experiencing long security lines, degrading enhanced pat-downs or the naked body scanners, unless of course that's what tickles her fancy. As a fat-cat politician, she will probably receive a glass of merlot, some truffles and scented candles with her TSA "encounter."
