Foreign Money, Drilling Moratorium, Obama's Liberal AdmissionDear Mark: President Obama and his fellow Democrats are running campaign ads attacking Karl Rove and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for supposedly using foreign money to influence the upcoming midterm elections in November. Doesn't this campaign strategy reinforce the anti-business perception of President Obama? — Pro Business in Provo Dear Pro: There is no perception that President Obama is anti-business. That is the reality. One need look no further than the health care legislation, the cap-and-trade legislation, Obama's comments to Joe the Plumber and the constant bashing of Wall Street to understand that Obama is anti-business. It is despicable that the Obama team would blatantly lie about an organization that is made up of over 300,000 legitimate American businesses in order to gin up his lethargic liberal base. When asked to produce evidence of any wrongdoing, White House spokesperson Robert Gibbs basically told the U.S. Chamber to disclose its donor list in order to prove that it wasn't using foreign money to influence elections. The administration has not produced a single piece of evidence that the Chamber has broken any laws. Joe McCarthy would be proud. It is ironic that President Obama is blowing a gasket about supposed undisclosed foreign money entering our country and influencing our elections. Yet he doesn't bat an eye about the millions of actual human beings entering our country illegally that influence our politicians. I guess the anointed one can pick and choose his times of righteous indignation. It is also funny that Democrats would run ads against Karl Rove and Ed Gillespie, who are not even running for office. Then again, the Democrats, lead by Obama, have been running against non-candidates since day one of his administration.
This episode once again shows the desperation of the Democrat Party, whose congressional candidates cannot run on the economy, will not run on health care, do not mention the wasteful stimulus package and cannot talk about cash for clunkers with a straight face. Dear Mark: You should be happy. The Interior Department decided to end the moratorium on deep-water oil exploration in the Gulf of Mexico this week. The president's people even ended the moratorium ahead of schedule, which is something you conservatives don't expect from government. Obama proved you wrong, and I'm happy. — Moderate Maggie in Minnesota Dear Moderate: The moratorium on offshore drilling was unnecessary to begin with, which makes the end about five months overdue. The only reason it was implemented in the first place was to please Obama's far-left environmental tree-huggers. As with most liberal brainstorms, the law of unintended consequences resulted in the loss of thousands of jobs in the gulf region and exponentially added to the misery already inflicted by the BP oil disaster. If in fact the Interior Department actually inspected all of the drilling operations, then where are all of the reports and findings? Call me cynical, but the end to the drilling moratorium is occurring awfully close to the midterm elections. Don't forget that President Obama has been reading "The Clinton Tapes" lately, and he might have picked up a thing or two from old Slick Willy. Dear Mark: President Obama admitted in a New York Times piece that he actually let himself look too much like "the same old tax-and-spend liberal Democrat." I don't know what to say. — Shocked in Cheyenne Dear Shocked: Try this — Duuuuuuh! Dear Mark is a public platform for your enrichment and entertainment. E-mail your questions to marklevy92@aol.com.
