Climate Change, Afghanistan and Party CrashersDear Mark: I am a 29-year-old mother of three, and I'm worried about my children and global warming, climate change or whatever it's called. Should I be, and is there anything I can do? — Melting Momma in Montana Dear Melting: A polar bear cub on a lonely ice floe makes for a compelling photograph, but that is not evidence our planet is being destroyed by manmade activities. Before we go any farther down this road, politicians and scientists need to acknowledge that "climate change" has been occurring since day one of our planet. Supporting evidence fills our museums and universities, while today water covers areas of the Earth that were once land and vice versa. Sea fossils can be found on mountaintops, and National treasures like the Grand Canyon began as trickles of water millions of years ago. Land masses that were once unified today make up the seven continents. As Barack Obama supporters would say, "Change happens." You should be more worried about the anti-capitalist politicians and liberal scientists who, in the name of saving the planet, are willing to destroy the very economies that actually save millions of lives across the globe. No more evidence of this whacko agenda is needed than the recent "climategate" e-mails discussing the destruction of information that contradicts the theory of manmade global warming. If you want to do something, contact the White House immediately and tell President Obama not to sign a treaty, an accord, a pledge or even an autograph at the upcoming Climate Conference in Copenhagen. With the recent scandal involving the fudging of important global warming data, all world leaders should back away from the negotiating table until a complete investigation can be completed. Dear Mark: President Obama is escalating the war in Afghanistan and taking it to al-Qaida and the Taliban.
Dear Proud: When he finally does something completely right, I'll let you know. In the meantime, the president's goal of "disrupting, dismantling and defeating al-Qaida and its extremist allies" is worthy, and I applaud him for that. On the other hand, I was disappointed in his speech at West Point, given with the passion of a mortician on Quaaludes. It was obvious the president was attempting to look hawkish to mainstream America while at the same time trying to appease the ultra-liberal Moveon.org sissies. To hopefully gain support from the left, Obama set a withdrawal timetable of July 2011. But being a crafty lawyer, he also included a loophole saying he will "execute this transition responsibly, taking into account conditions on the ground." I also did not appreciate the president's fiscal remarks about the Afghan war as if he were telling the West Point cadets he will support their mission as long they keep track of the bullets and grenades fired at the enemy. Let's hope political half-measures don't once again prolong a war. Dear Mark: What do you think about the couple who recently crashed the White House State Dinner? — Tell Me in Tennessee Dear Tell Me: I believe there should be congressional hearings along with a complete investigation of how this could possibly happen. A nice-looking couple lies about why they should be allowed in the White House ... uh, wait, you're not talking about the Obamas, are you?
