Worrying About Israel
by Susan Estrich
Am I concerned, friends ask me quietly, after we all publicly praise President Obama's monumental Cairo speech. The friends are usually, but not always, Jewish. They are all, like me, strong supporters of the state of Israel.
The answer is that of course I'm concerned. I'm very concerned. But since when has a supporter of the state of Israel not been concerned?
These are, nonetheless, especially sensitive and worrisome times, not only because of Iran's bellicose threats, continu ...

Susan I have listened to you for years and I don't recall ever agreeing with you. I came here today to listen to the liberal side and see what they think of the present state of the union. I really think that you are very intelligent, even if I don't understand what shapes your views, and deep down inside I think that sometimes obvious nuetral ground is ignored to avoid appearing complicit with "the other side", but I hear a wariness in your voice of this president that gives me hope that you have not been taken in by this fairy tale. Lets reclaim our freedoms, our dignity, and our country and go back to fussing about affirmative action or something.

Susan Estrich is a "strong supporter of Israel"? How does one support Israel, yet criticise it for retaining the territories even the Pentagon has said are required for Israel to survive an attack from its neighbors?
Estrich demonstrates her lack of understanding of the nature of the Arab-Israeli conflict by falling back to the left-wing nonsense that Israel is an occupier that must be forced into ever-less defendable borders, even as its enemies teach their children that Israel is an illegitimate Western implant that must be destroyed. The conflict is not, and never has been, about Israel's borders or the rights of a ficticious group of Arabs called "Palestinians." It is only about the right of the Jews to their ancestral homeland, an authentic claim that predates Islam by over a thousand years. I am no big fan of Netanyahu, but not because he is too "aggressive", as Estrich labels him. He is spineless and weak, and will cave to U.S. and European demands to make unrequited concessions to the enemies of Israel. Let's not forget, as Estrich's "friends of Israel" criticise Netanyahu for not using the phrase "two-state solution" when he visited Obama, that Mr. Abbas, during his visit, refused to use that phrase as well. Why? Because, while for true peace (as defined by Western culture), Israel would accept a 22nd Arab state carved out of its homeland, Israel's enemies do not (and liekly will never) recognize a Jewish state.

Susan,
You are what the 95% of the Cubans who initially supported Fidel Castro were - A "useful fool" who will be discarded as he gains more power and no longer needs your support to accomplish his agenda.

Do you find jokes about raping a 14 year old funny? I don't. And I am sure as a victim, you don't. But David Letterman seems to think its funny.

Explain to me why Arabs can live in Israel lands but Jews and Christians are not welcomed in Palestinian lands!
Also, why are the American Jews anti-Semetic?

Sorry Susan--You have a voice-a big one and you could have used
it but you chose not to do so. You do NOT get to play revisionist
history and bemoan the fact that you are suddenly NOT SURE about
President Obama's stance on Israel. Do you honestly think a man
can attend a Church for more than twenty years and somehow
fail to 'notice' anti-Semitic sermons and attitudes surrounding him?
We are talking about a man who was running to be President...a
man who had been Editor of Harvard Law Review (albeit at a time
when scholastic accomplishment was no longer a sine qua non for
the position. We're talking about a man who made promises to
AIPAC re Israel but began backpedalling within hours. So much for
intellectual integrity vs political demagoguery.
Please also spare us the incipient rationalizations re how puzzled you are at Mr. Netanyahu for insisting on expanding settlements. I may
be wrong, but my understanding is that there is no intent to import new family units...simply to provide necessary housing for expanding families (as in the children need to sleep somewhere!)
But right or wrong on this issue Susan, how does it impact the
existential threat posed by Iran or the vast aid he will send the
Palestinians--a good thing UNLESS you plan to have the UN
oversee the program (can you say oil-for-food? how about here
comes Hamas?)
Sorry, Susan, you do NOT get to rewrite that in which you are complicit.

For twenty years Barack Obama voiced a hearty "Amen Brother" when Rev. Wright berated America, whites and Jews and it is only now you are worried????

Obama is the president of all Americans of many different national origins, as well as ethnic, racial, religious and cultural profiles. If he feels that any foreign country is acting counter to the national security interests of the United States, he has an obligation to use his authority to protect Americans. After 9/11, Israel's policies towards its neighbors should come under scrutiny as to how they affect American security. All patriotic Americans should support an even-handed foreign policy in the Middle East that puts America's interests first.

I begrudgingly acknowledge that there may be some merit to the speech and the visit to Buchenwald, however, he left too much out. He should have brought up the Jewish history as well as Western History. Instead of beating down the U.S. he should have spoken of our great moments. He has pandered to the hate filled masses. It is now okay to pile on the U.S. Additionally why didn't he visit Israel? Are you familiar with some of the sentiments out of Israel related to him? It appears he does not care about Israel or America for that matter.

Susan, are you as dumb as every one else is on the left? Why do you have such selective memory? I remember after 9/11 Pres Bush reaching out to Muslims again and again. Do you remember that? Why were his attempts to let the Muslims know that we were not including them in the 9/11 attacks not as legitimate as Obamas? You people on the left are something else. Are you happy with this president's agenda so far? Isn't he everything we were afraid of? Why do you on the left so much want to soclallize this great country. It hasn't worked anywhere in the world and yet now America is going in that direction. What folly! China is doing well now because Deng took his "Hands off" and let the people do business. And look at what happened. Why didn't that happened under strong restriction communist control? I am just sick to see the direction our country is going in. In less than 6 six months this man is turning everything topsy-turvy. Why do you all want governement to take care of you? I guess only mature people can handle freedom to "do for themselves." Children want to be taken care of. I am just sick in San Francisco. Which reminds me....I know how to balance the budget without cutting jobs and funds for schools, our firefighters, policemen, etc.,.. stop paying for illegal immigrants' health care and schooling. In 2 yrs or less we'll be out of the red. But you are all too cowardly to do that aren't you?

Susan
Yes I get your point that we must put all of our faith and trust in the Dear Leader to solve the problems not only of this country but of the entire world and generations to come.
Wouldn't you feel better though if we really knew what he felt and believed? Which we would if the msm spent more time reporting on Him than they did fawning over Him.
I pray FOR him, preported journalists pray TO him.
That's the difference.

I am convinced that our President is Muslim and as they threatened, they are succeeding to destroy our country from within. I can not believe you can write about supporting him or give him a free ride on this one. Susan if you had any guts and you really cared about Israel you have to show it and confront what is going on. Susan this behavior of our new administration is scaring me and I can not believe all this is happening and no one is stopping him. I have a son who is joining the military and I feel the behavior of our government is putting our soldiers in danger and the liberals just do not care. It is not funny anymore and I can not understand how you can support this. Susan how can you sit and watch our country go down the tubes and not stand up for what is right(not political but the right thing). We are the laughing stock of the world and I am very embarrassed of our politicians. Please stand up for Sarah Palin's 14 yr old daughter with comments by David Letterman. How low are the politicians going to go and supporter going to go to destroy people. I am so ashamed of all of you.
