William F. Buckley, RIP

by Linda Chavez

Conservatism lost one of its most influential voices this week. William F. Buckley Jr. — author, editor, television host, and one of America's most important public intellectuals — died in his home Wednesday at 82. Ma'am; With all possible respect, Mr. Buckley was not conservative. He was a purveyor of a medieval metaphysical adoration of the "Supreme" individual. Take a look at the man, his references to religion and his appeal to faith. That thing he preached, the created individual was fully developed in the middle ages church. Did it soften the treatment of serfs? It did not free them from injustice. It excused the break up of every community in Europe, and it goes about that destruction today to the point where no parent dare spank his child without a lawyer present. No longer do communities have rights, and no longer does the individual have his community supporting his demand for justice. Now we must all plead with our masters as individuals for justice. For those willing to sacrifice their individuality to the government, to the corporation, or to the party their dinner is served by so many defenseless individuals. If I were like Mr. Buckley, or one of his class, I would celebrate the philosophy of the individual too. It has been their gain, even if it has been the destruction of humanity. At a minimum it has reduced us to so many beggers and serfs working on another's land for nothing. I think the guy picked a great time to die. The world can turn a page.
