The reason more and more politicians are rotten is easy to see... There are too few representatives representing too many people... Populations have grown, and so has grown power and wealth; but the numbers of representatives have grown little or not at all... What Mark Twain said of the Truth, that we should economize it should be done with government... If some one wants to buy politicains, make them plentiful to the point where their price sinks below the value of their virtue... Lincoln once threw a man out of his office for offering a bribe... He asked if he did not offer enough... Lincoln said: No, but he was reaching his price, and he thought he better resist while able. (my paraphrase).... We do not elect people to see their virtue bought, and might enjoy it more if we could see it bought. and have our pessimism confirmed... But that is a poor return for the effort we put into government to to pay so much, and be out bid... What we do then, is not good or moral of us, to put people in a position where their morality will be always challenged; but is stupid as well, when we all know that where money is dear, honor is cheap... Too many dollars and too much power always go together... We must limit power, and lower the price of power, by multiplying representatives until their price tanks... It is a simple matter of supply and demand... And what was said of Dutch Sea Captains: that they would sail through hell with their sails on fire for a hundred percent profit is true of politicians.. Anything they can put in their pockets is a hundred percent profit... What are they going to do??? Pay taxes on graft??? They have invested nothing in what they sell, which is their honor and our trust....Thanks...Sweeney
